Unbelievable Lag makes Brink unplayable...

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 3:39 pm

The first couple days on release I can understand... but I really hope they do something about lag.

I can't play Campaign/Freeplay or really anything with anyone else (that's NOT my friends), and go through the worse Lag in a Shooter I've ever endured... like what's seriously going on?

Would it be my router/modem? I don't get why everytime I try and do stuff with other people I will lag insanely and can't even MOVE... ?

Anyone else enduring this extremities?

Do a couple private matches and tell me how that works for you. It definitely runs a lot smoother for me. Still has the occasional lag here and there but nothing like a public match for some reason.

You may also read in the sticky atop this forum that says the developers are looking into/trying to solve the problem.

I did, after posting this... lol.

And, for Private Matches, do they count towards the "Tough as nails" Achievement? (Complete ALL storyline missions (exc. What-If), in either Online Versus or in Hard Mode.)

I find I get lag spikes bad in public games but any time my friends and I play a private match the game goes perfectly fine no one lags or complains about lag anyway. I'm sure if it's a problem that enough people have then there will be an update for it.

i also am experiencing bad lag when playing online. it seems i play one good match with out no lag then play two or three games with some of the worst lag i have ever seen, also when playing the game my xbox just so happens to freeze after an hour or to of play everytime. i only have the freezing problem with this game. yes i did read that they are working on it. im just hoping that it actually gets fixed because i do know of some other games out there that have bad lag as well but never get fixed no matter how many people say how bad it is. i hope in this case it will be different with this game because i really enjoy how this game is played its like they put shadowrun and team fortress 2, two good games and made them into one really fun, entertaining game.

temporary fix, change your match type from Standard to Competitive..some odd reason it's working like a charm.

i have the same problem. what i am doing right now is working very well. Play the campaign solo and play competitive online. One of the options for game mode i believe is competitive in which i think the teams are limited to 5v5 and i have expirienced little to no lag every match. this is working for me until they patch the game, hope it helps

5vs5 while not as fun does have considerably less lag typically thank god. 8vs8 I've had about 12 pretty good matches out of about 90 attempts. Its sad and I certainly hope they fix it. When the game doesn't lag its fantastic but that's a rare site.

We have been working on updates for Brink to address the lag issue that some people have reported they were experiencing.

In the meantime, we have made a configuration change for 360 users (which will be available to the PS3, once PSN is up) that alters the number of human players when matchmaking for “Campaign” and most ‘Freeplay’ modes to eight total human players. This new configuration will allow those connecting to and hosting matches (particularly those with lower upstream bandwidth) to more reliably find and connect to quality hosts via the match-making process – resulting in less lag and more fun. This change is being rolled out today and will be available worldwide.

For players who haven’t been experienced lag, we’ll still support 8v8 on all maps via a new ‘Big Teams’ configuration in Freeplay, and through custom settings in Private matches. There is no download required for this update and it will be available automatically the next time you log in to play Brink and launch either campaign or standard Freeplay matches. This should allow players new to the Ark as well as veterans to find quality matches suitable to their preferred play style.

We are also releasing an incremental update for PC players via Steam that addresses AI, GPU, and server issues. See the http://store.steampowered.com/news/5464/. Many of these fixes are being included in the full update for the 360 and PS3 versions.

We would like to thank you for supporting Brink and for your continued feedback. To show our appreciation for your support of Brink, we will be making the first DLC for Brink available for free when it is released. This DLC is planned for June and will offer additional maps. We’ll continue to provide announcements about the next title update, as well as the first DLC release as that information becomes available.

True. The private matches do run real smooth and its alot of fun. This game will be one of my favorites when it's complete. It's funny, cuz when BlackOPs came out for the ps3 and pc most of us thought that game had unplayable lag problems, but compared to the public matches on Brink,Black Ops was a fully polished game on release. It's sad if you think about it.

was shocking last night, could not play a single matchmaking game with anyone. rubberbanding all over the place!
i called bethesda tech support this afternoon and they said that there is no link detection to work out the best console to host the game, it just uses whoever started that game first... no way of specifying to only play with people "local" to you region wise either (like reach) so just got to wait until they can patch it.
£25 trade in at game at the mo so i'm considering cutting my losses and going back to black ops until it gets a proper patch and may pick up again.
such a shame because it has awesome potential!

Ive looked forward to this game for so long and finally when i get it.............its unplayable. WORST LAG EVER!
I'm gutted, the AI is awful too and so playing solo is rubbish. Im disappointed, the videos all looked great but it just fails miserably.

the lag was fixed and now for me the game runs great and im having a great time with it now. like every one else out there i had a really bad time with the lag now like i said the game seems to be running how it should be, but so i hope for all you out there that it is working the way is should with no lag. if you are still getting alot of lag i dont know what to tell you because from what i can see and have heard the lag has been fixed so mybe its you.

That is not an acceptable solution to the problem imo. (not directed at you, but the developers off course)

The games online play is absolutely busted. I just jump around in place. I can't move. I can't shoot. If it ever does smooth out or catch up I just get killed by someone else. What the hell is wrong with this game and why is it not fixed yet? This game is going to end up being the biggest flop of 2011 if they do not get a patch up and running to fix the LAG issue.

This is AFTER patch!

Until they patch the LAG problem this game is an absolute waste of money. I want my $60 back. Single player with a bunch or [censored] AI opponents is not my idea of a fun game.

FAIL!

I don't think this game cares which region you are in when matchmaking.. I get paired up with alot of americans and i'm playing from the UK, that is going to be laggy no matter what game I play.. but theres no way to tell the game to specify it's search.. so I just end up game hopping till I find some europeans.. and then it's generally playable.. it's sad :(

I have a feeling that the bots are somehow adding to the lag.. I have had WAY more lagless games playing the competative playlist then any other, but that might be because the game is limited to 5v5 as well :)

give it a go

The Lag at time is insane on the multiplayer. The game will be playing beautifully online then someone with shocking connection will join and it ruins it and the game doesnt kick them! Dedicated servers which require a minimum connection speed or similar connection speed of te other players would be great so all those with shocking connection can pay together and not ruin those with good connection. It would be great if you you could also make parties in the game so you can join the game with a friend rather than you both trying to find a game that isn't ful and hen trying to join before it becomes full. Great game please solve the lag issue or mke a search option for good connection only which wont allow those with poor connection to join

I bought this game for 8 vs 8 not 5 vs 5 so the "fix" they recommend is not acceptable to me. The lack of a party system or some sort of lobby makes me wonder if the developers a) have any friends or B) ever have played an online shooter in their lives.

I've played some matches (ex. Big Team Battles) and haven't had an issue with major lag, but some minor ones would show up from time to time. Same goes for Competitive Mode. Just got to give SD some time to resolve this even further. Game is wonderful overall. Been a big fan of objective base games since Enemy Territory. Later all.
