Underwater combat- getting rid of those pesky slaughterfish

Post » Tue Jun 05, 2012 6:50 pm

I found a nice little unmarked spot on my map today. It's a small fishermens' camp just NW of the wreck of the Winter War. There's an overturned boat and a couple of skeletons in the water, so it's not hard to find. Also there are about half a dozen slaughterfish.

Normally I'd swim near them and get them to chase me to shore. This bunch refused to do that. And since I'm playing an unarmored mage who has no interest in being nibbled to death while she looks for loot under the overturned boat, I had to get rid of them. Since I can't actually cast spells underwater, I had to look for one that I could cast on land and have it remain active while I went swimming. I found that Lightning Cloak does this. I cast it, swam out, and watched the fish fry themselves as they got too close. :shocking:

I know I'm not the first one to think of this, but I've never seen it posted, so I thought I'd share for anyone who was getting tired of getting gnawed on when you can't fight back. No idea if the other cloaks work- I don't have them yet, but as soon as I do I'll try them out.

I remembered that I once Fus Ro Dah'd a slaughterfish out of water. No idea how. I think it was partly on a rock.

hahaha, brilliant. I can't wait to try that tonight. Something else I enjoy is going through water with Lydia. She gets all hung up on the slaughterfish and says her usual dialogue, "Skyrim belongs to the Nords!" "Is that your best?!" Too funny. :tes:

Storm call may be slightly over the top.

I just cast fireballs (the explosive type) at the water. Big explosion that spreads underwater and kills the slaughterfish. Of course it doesn't kill regular fish, which is really quite silly.

I figured that would work and wondered if anyone had tried it. Magic! :P

I tried that, they were down too deep. I even got up on the overturned boat, and tried Firestorm and Blizzard. No dice.

Logic... BAH! Insanity is the only way to go; why do you think Sheogorath is so popular? :teehee:
