Underwater Visuals

Post » Thu May 31, 2012 11:30 pm

I've noticed that the underwater visuals were significantly improved following Patch 1.5. They should look something like http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eNOXJ76mbxM&feature=youtu.be&hd=1

However, a few people have indicated that they cannot see anything underwater, or that there are some other similar problems.

Anyone else experienced this, and if you did, how did you fix it?

A couple of things.

First make new ini files.

Secondly, mods like RWT and ENB will make the new effects not work. RWT has been replaced now by Water, which has a fix for the new underwater effects.

Lastly if you've disabled Depth of Field you won't see the new water effects.

It's very simple to fix the green color underwater problem:
1. Uninstall the ENB mods. ENB doesn't work properly with 1.5 (and ENB in general is really rather idiosyncratic :()
2. Delete skyrim.ini and skyrimprefs.ini, so that the game will regenerate them on launch.
3. Uninstall mods like Realistic Water Textures and use the latest version of the WATER mod which supports the 1.5 water.
4. Some people are still forcing steam on offline mode and stuck with patch 1.5.24. Patch 1.5.26 incorporates some fixes related to the underwater effects.
4. If all else fails, verify your steam cache.

Now if the problem doesn't get fixed after all this, there's something seriously wrong with your copy of Skyrim :)

Another problem that has been reported with the underwater effects introduced in the 1.5 update has to do with water appearing completely clear. This will occur if the bDoDepthOfField is set to 0 in the SkyrimPrefs.ini. Basic depth of field and underwater blur effects are tied to this setting. Any mods that change or replace depth of field in Skyrim will likely be incompatible with the 1.5 update until/unless they are updated.

Do you have the latest drivers for your graphics card?

What are your specs?

Do you have any mods installed that modify the graphics, water textures, or any .ini tweaks?

i don't have any mods or .ini tweaks

my pc : CPU intel core2duo@3.0GHz ; 3GB DDR2 RAM ; HIS HD4870 video card ; the video drivers are ok

i can run Skyrim on high graphic details without any problems

i repeat, i didn't had this problem untill the latest patch and no modifications were made to my PC(soft or hard)

So, i think this patch damaged somehow , us , the ones who had no problems with the underwater visuals :|

I was happy with the patches Bethesda released because they repaired all kind of problems, but now is my turn to enter the people who have problems after updating club :)

Have you tried deleting your ini files and have the game make new ones?

The visuals work fine, they do for me anyway. But one or 2 things can interfere.

Does the game automatically make new ones? if so, yes I did, if not, where do I tell it to?

always felt I knew quite a bit about pc's... but this whole thing has made me feel like a total noob -.-

Have already tried all other steps Karellan mentioned above
EDIT: except for the cache thing.... tried to but realised I had no idea what I was looking at so stopped before I make things worse... again: total noob.....

I honestly have no idea why it doesn't work after trying all these fixes. It worked for me instantly lol (one I updated the Water mod).

The only thing I can think of is:
Uninstall Skyrim
Delete the Skyrim folder is steamapps/common/
Delete the skyrim folder in Documents/My Games/ ( but copy it to desktop because it contains your saves)
Uninstall your GPU driver
Reboot
Install the latest GPU driver
Reboot
Install Skyrim
Reboot

If I think of anything else I'll post again.

i tried all above

but honestly, to uninstall the game, the GPU drivers, etc are not solutions ; come on guys :) it is not the first pc game that appeared ; we are not in the 80's or 90's to take this kind of measures

i posted in this topic and described my problem thinking that bethesda stuff will notice and repair what the latest patch did wrong.

This problem is caused by enbseries apparently.

There is a green water fix on nexus:http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=14007

Since you have brought up this problem, does it mean the problem is going to be fixed officially in coming updates?

I don't use the ENBseries, so that is definately not the only problem for me... Even ran a 'delete all ENBseries' program someone put up on nexus, did nothing... I've saved the link you shared (thanx!), but am still kinda hoping for a structural fix... must be possible, seeing as many people already seemed to be able to fix it...

I get the problems described in post 6, too. Green screen underwater and some occasionally weird distortion on textures (the latter infrequent).

Running Windows 7, 8 GB RAM, quad-core AMD A6-3600. My graphics card is a 6770, updated to latest drivers. I do run ENB, but have tried both disabling it and uninstalling it to no effect. No other specific graphics mods, but tried disabling them too; no impact. Seems to be base game issue.

Hope the next patch fixes this, and doesn't ruin ENB (makes the game look really nice).

I don't see how it's a base game issue, if I and many others don't get it

As mentioned above, people with vanilla Skyrim seem to be getting this, so it's apparently not just an ENB issue.

Tried the green water fix in #14, and it worked. It works for me regardless of whether ENB is installed and active, installed and inactive, or totally removed.

So... I'm not sure. If anyone without ENB is getting weird opaque water, try the fix in #14, and see if that works for you.
