Unexpected Benefits

My Altmer character was feeling lonely in a world where there were no eligible bachelors of her kind. I felt sorry for her, so I used the console to make Aicantar (that would be the nephew of Calcelmo, the Markarth court wizard) marriageable (and a follower as well, while I was at it). I wasn't sure if it would work, so I saved beforehand in case something blew up or got weird, but it worked perfectly. He moved into my house, opened a shop (he sells the same things Calcelmo does, and has about 500 gold), following works fine even if his raised corpses break my sneaking around, etc.

But then I got curious as to whether or not he actually owned anything, seeing as he and Calcelmo are both always standing around in the same place and never seem to sleep, and when I snooped around in the Dwemer Museum and court wizard's quarters earlier while doing other quests, I hadn't noticed any beds in there... It turns out there is a bed, in fact, but that's not the best part. The best part is that everything in the Dwemer Museum, Calcelmo's Laboratory, and Calcelmo's Tower is marked "Take" and not "Steal" anymore. I'd already done the quest that involved sneaking around Calcelmo's personal guards, though, so I can't say if they'd be affected too.

As if I didn't already have enough Dwarven Metal Ingots...

That's pretty neat. As a side note, there are several dwemer pieces laying right next to their shop that you can steal. Whenever I start a new heavy armor character, I'll swing by there real fast to nab them. There's enough out in the open to craft a full suit and weapons.

Those pieces right next to Calcelmo, you don't even have to steal those. Just do one quest for him (kill the spider, finish his part of the Book of Love quest, deliver the ring to him from the silversmith) and you can just take all those pieces near him. It's the stuff in the Museum and his quarters you'd still have to steal (unless you cheat like I did).

True, I had forgotten about that. The benefit to stealing them is that you don't have to fight anything to get it asap. Of course, a couple of spiders isn't really a big deal.

I wonder if there are other non-marriageable people that would produce interesting benefits. Maybe a Jarl?

Oooh, I'll have to try that next, I think. Though most of the jarls don't seem to mind if you take their things once you become Thane in their hold anyway.
