Last evening due to various events involving "small hands" (read children involved) my Skyrim DVD met an untimely death. I had the collectors edition for the Xbox. Main question any reason buying another standard edition Xbox DVD would cause me problems? I am assuming my save files will work?

I know I needed a break from this as I have been playing since release non-stop, but I was waiting a few more weeks for Reckoning to force that issue, not a broken DVD.

Should be fine. The data on the collectors game disc will be exactly the same as the normal game disc so you could get any Xbox game disc and you will be able to play your game with your character etc.

None whatsoever. All save files will work you'll not notice any difference.

There is no difference between the special edition and regular edition disks.

You may want to call tech support before picking up a new copy, as it's possible you can get a replacement from them. (Disclaimer: I'm not a Bethesda employee and I know nothing about their policies concerning such things, but I figure it can't hurt to call and ask.)

OK, so what did the small hands do to kill your Skyrim? You can't post that someone with small small hands murdered your disk without actually saying how it was murdered.

Thats like watching a really engaging movie and having it just end. Without a closing or an ending. Like someone just stopped filming. Just as the murderer was about to be revealed: *fade out/end credits*.

Fist off contrary to my DV/TG character I happen to be a pretty honest guy. So no it wasn't exactly an accident, and I take full responsibility for this. I am very happy to report it looks like I am covered under the 90 days for a replacement disk, THANK YOU gamesas. As Bethesda is literally my home town and I grew up with these guys (in spirit), nothing could make me happier and for once proud to call Bethesda my home town.

You want to know the detail "The Tallest" Well it was a little guy who was very excited to play Lego's Pirates of the Caribbean so he very gently placed Skyrim in his Lego case. When I got off work he was so excited to watch skyrim he literally ripped the DVD right out of the case forgetting to press the center, causing the DVD to snap in half.

Poor guy is such a skyrim viewing addict he cried hysterically for hours that he would never see skyrim again. After I calmed that down and told him we would find a way to replace the DVD, it took another hour or two try and convince him we wouldn't have to start from the begging as we were just about to crack level 50. The little kindergartner just stepped of the bus in tears over this situation as he wanted to watch Skyrim this weekend.

Sounds like you may need to buy a replacement disk STAT for the guy. Getting the replacement from Bethesda may not happen today. Years ago when I got a replacement, it took about two weeks for the process.

Or, barring that, you could rent the game for the weekend, while waiting for the replacement.

We have agreed that a few week break of Skyrim might be a good thing, though we both admit this with a great sense of forced denial. We have a new car pack for Forza 4 and a few lego game to play together, and dear old dad hasn't even cracked the wrapper on Assassins Creed Revelations, whihc arrived the same day as Skyrim. Though assassins creed is for dad only no little eyes on that one, I can live with him watching Draugr's and Giants die but the creed has way too much advlt content.

just can't bring myself to pay the outrageous weekend rental fee blockbuster seems to charge. So The break in the DVD is bringing a needed break in Skyrim play. My only fear is Reckoning will land on my door step about the time my replacement DVD arrives and that alone could send Skyrim to the back of the bin, unless Skyrim DLC shows up fast.......
