Unofficial Dead Island Discussion

Post » Tue Sep 06, 2011 1:29 pm

Dead Island is an upcoming first person zombie game set on the fictional island of Banoi. You can choose to play as one of four characters.

Xian Mei, an employee at the Royal Palms Resort. Born and raised in China, she chose an occupation that allowed her to leave her country of birth in order to experience different people and cultures. She is a fast learner, intelligent, and quick on her feet. Having just arrived at Banoi Island, Xian Mei was responsible for myriad menial tasks at the hotel, before starting work as a receptionist. This opportunity to meet and greet all the different nationalities that visited the hotel was ideal for Xian Mei, as it provided a perfect source of inspiration for her dreams of travelling the globe.

Sam B, a one-hit wonder rap star from New Orleans. He was booked by the Royal Palms Resort to perform his well known song "Who Do You Voodoo?" at a high profile hotel party. He gladly took the chance to play this gig. Once strong, self-confident and proud, Sam B has had a troubled past and a history of drug and alcohol abuse, as his private life became caught in a haze of fake friends and bad advisors.

Logan, a former NFL star, spoiled by life and successful in every possible way. Logan's ego finally put an end to his bright future. Taking part in a reckless street race with tragic consequences, Logan not only killed a young woman - his unfortunate passenger - he also fractured his knee, putting an end to his sports career. His fall from stardom inevitably followed and he plunged swiftly into a life of bitterness and despair. In an attempt to get away from the demons hunting him, he gladly takes the chance to experience the beauties and wonders of Banoi Island.

Purna is a former officer of the Sydney Police department. After losing her career when she shot a child molester who could not be prosecuted because of his wealth and connections, Purna then turned to working as a bodyguard for VIPs in dangerous places all over the world. She is hired not just for her skills but her looks as wealthy men do not mind showing up with Purna on their arm.

Dead Island was originally announced at E3 2006 but was pushed back to 2011. It is now scheduled to be released on September 6th in North America and September 9th elsewhere.

The game also boasts 4 player drop in co-op as well as a real time damage system.

Overall, this is shaping up to be a pretty good game so what are your thoughts on Dead Island?

EDIT: This is the second time I've done this!

I'm looking forward to picking this game up on Tuesday. IGN called it "Fallout with zombies" in their review, which got me pretty excited.

The game looks like a spiced up version of Left4dead. I am going to get it for sure. If it gets outstanding reviews I am getting as soon as possible and if it gets okay-good reviews I will wait for the price to drop.

I'm really looking forward to it, already have it pre-loaded from Steam. Killing zombies using melee combat and leveling up / talents sounds like a blast.

It gets compared to Left 4 Dead a lot, but it's actually supposed to be quite a bit different. A lot closer to an RPG than a straight up zombie shooter.

If anyone thinks that this game is like L4D, they need to look into it more. A lot more.

It's basically a first person action RPG, right? Like TES, but just the basics.

I like the fact that you don't go in guns blazing, slaughtering zombies left and right. Instead your trying to beat them away with whatever you can get your hands on.

Anyway, what is http://29.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lj4bjns2En1qie5cyo1_500.jpg guy doing on a holiday resort?

I saw some of the gameplay, it looked good. I was expecting Left 4 Dead, and got something that was more RPG than FPS.
Also, the http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lZqrG1bdGtg made me a sad zombie :sadvaultboy: .
Might get it sometime, perhaps after the Skyrim aftermath  .

IGN's review is in and they gave it an 8.

"Behind the hype lies a rough but cool RPG" http://ps3.ign.com/articles/119/1192319p1.html

I wish it had more gunz.

Its know the melee is supposed to be good but i prefer a nice bolt action hunting rifle. I don't like the whole set character thing and the atmosphere being a tropical island....

meh.

I'm sure there will be some decent mods for the game though.

I have it pre-ordered.

But.. I'm not 100% sure it will be worth the $60 price tag. I'll hold my pre-order until I see a majority of the reviews.

I have my eye on it, but I'll wait for more reviews... especially those from consumers. So, it's certainly not a day one purchase, for me, but I'm interested.

No security at all there? I find that hard to believe :whistling:
Even if it doesn't make sense, I don't care about that I just want to shoot zombies lol. Guess I'll have to see how the walking dead game turns out.

Well after so many disappointing game this year I really have my hopes up for Dead Island.I'll be attending the the midnight release at Game stop so I can pick up my Limited Edition copy.

On a side note it probably has the best trailer I have ever seen.

I think that trailer really hurt the game in the long run. All i've been hearing is that the game could never live up to that trailer and the reviews reflect that.

I as well would love to see more guns. Especially if they are comparing it to FO3. But I love the fact that you can create/mod weapons. So that partially makes up for it. I will probably end up renting it seeing as how my game budget is taken up already.

It's not that there's no guns, they're just rare.

Throughout the game you go across the whole island, there's a few towns and villages. Maybe there's an psychiatric hospital or something in one of them?

I can't stand how foolish some people can be.All a trailer does is roughly show the genre of the game. When people buy into all the hype they are doing themselves a disservice.

But since the island is a tourist attraction, wouldn't they think it's a bit dangerous to have guys who were dangerous enough to require a straight jacket and a muzzle before zombification?

Gotta agree on the trailer part. Gave me goosebumps.

Are you getting it for PS3 or Xbox?
