Still only a rumor, but it looks like Xenoblade Chronicles is showing up in GameStop's computers as an exclusive to the store. It's supposedly releasing April 3.

Edit- Nintendo of America's Facebook page put up pictures of Xenoblade's characters. I'll take that as subtle confirmation. :P Already imported the game, but I'll buy it again.

Update: A press release from Nintendo of America confirms that Xenoblade Chronicles will only be sold through Gamestop and directly via Nintendo themselves.

So I've been thinking of getting one of the Final Fantasy games on the iPhone...Unfortunately they're like $15. Are they worth it? Which one is the best?

I'd say they're worth it, yeah. Final Fantasy and Final Fantasy II are the updated PSP versions, so you get the nice sprite work, gameplay refinements and additional content. Final Fantasy III is also a port of the DS remake, which was a great game.

Final Fantasy II's leveling mechanics and difficulty can be quite frustrating though, so I'd probably go with either the original Final Fantasy or Final Fantasy III. III if you're looking for something slightly more modern.

Edit- There's also Square's own Chaos Rings on iOS, which I've heard good things about. Might be worth looking into.

Nope, not yet. I'd like to think we'll get it, but being a PSP game in 2012 means the chances are pretty slim. :(

Edit- I haven't actually seen anything about the game and I guess it's coming out in February in Japan. Kinda weird.

Apparently there's another action RPG in the works at Square for the PlayStation 3 and PS Vita. It doesn't appear to be the medieval themed action RPG linked above, as this will be using the Unity Engine rather than Unreal. It's being developed by the 1st Production Department (the group that oversees Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts titles).

http://andriasang.com/comz6n/squenix_ps3_and_vita_arpt/

It should be noted that the 1st Production Department is the result of multiple development divisions being merged some years ago. It's not just a single team, so this new title shouldn't impact Versus XIII's development. This is especially true now that Final Fantasy XIII-2 and Type-0 are pretty much wrapped up.

Areas aren't nearly as linear this time around. It looks to be about on par with Final Fantasy X's level design, maybe a little better even.

Now that's what I want to see... but I haven't exactly heard good things about X's level design, either.

It wasn't anything like Final Fantasy XII, nor did it have the world map of previous games, but it was still a whole lot better than Final Fantasy XIII, where there were literally no branching paths whatsoever until Gran Pulse.

Edit- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NNEJ1my8UvA four more minutes of field exploration and a look at the Historia Crux system. There are definitely a few areas shown in that video that come close to some of Final Fantasy XII's. It's also got http://youtu.be/WqhDFYSlj0U. ^_^

The Last Story got a European release date now, February 24th. Also bought Xenoblade Chronicles today, although I can't play it as I don't have a Wii :P

Still trying to decide if I should buy a Wii now to be able to play Xenoblade Chronicles and The Last Story, or simply just wait for the Wii U instead as it will be backwards compatible seeing I'm not in a big hurry to play the games now.

Sweet, I'm going to watch that, now... and I love that song. :D now. Does XIII-2's gameworld have any full-blown towns in it and aside from the much-improved maps, how free-to-roam is the gameworld as a whole (with whatever that time-travel system is and everything else I don't understand or know much about, is the gameworld divided into levels that cannot be returned to like in XIII)? Also, what's the general consensus about Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch in Japan? Is it true... it's really running at a target framerate of 60 fps?

Edit: I see places strongly resembling towns and even a transition between one of those areas and a hostile wilderness area... my hopes... they're growing.

Really looking forward to importing The Last Story (not waiting ~6 months again to see where NoA stands). I played a bit of the Japanese version and the combat was very interesting. Plus, I'll eat up whatever Mistwalker dishes out.

Wii U is rumored to be quite pricy though, and I can't imagine a ton of games coming out for it right away. Might be best to get a Wii now (they can be had pretty cheap here in the States) and see what the Wii U looks like in a few years.

There are actual towns, NPCs, etc. There's also a casino called Serindipity that has a bunch of minigames like Chocobo Racing and so on (basically Gold Saucer from Final Fantasy VII) and a Coliseum in which you'll be able to battle boss-like enemies (DLC) and recruit them to your party. How the world is all connected, I can't really say for sure. Travel from one time period to another via the Historia Crux is apparently similar to traveling between worlds in the Kingdom Hearts games (i.e. Gummi Ship). The part I'm unsure of is exactly how expansive each time period is. Regardless, Square has said that you can backtrack to previous areas for side quests and such.

As for Ni no Kuni, it's about the same as the DS version (though sales are much lower because of said DS version). There are mixed feelings about the game's story (again, same as the DS version). I'm afraid I don't know about its framerates, but 60 FPS seems entirely plausible considering the game's lightweight cel-shading (for comparison, games like Modern Warfare 3 runs at 60 FPS as well).

When will versus thirteen be released or FFX remake?

Versus XIII, possibly late 2012 in Japan/early 2013 elsewhere. Final Fantasy X HD, no clue. I'd say Q3/4 2012 is a safe bet.

The WiiU pricy? Is it more powerful than originally speculated or something?

That sounds great about XIII-2... I think I might actually get it now. However, mixed feelings about the story? Really? That seemed like one of the best, most charming and surefire things about it from what I've seen. Why the mixed thoughts?

Yes according to reports it was and believed to be wrong are:

Quad core processor
1 gb embedded ram

Keep in mind the original wii has 3 mb and the xbox360 has 10 mb.

1 gb embedded RAM... embedded into the GPU alone? That can't be. Surely that must be a reference to system memory?

I'd still keep your XIII-2 expectations low, just to be safe. :P

I don't really have any spoiler-free examples of things that folks didn't like about Ni no Kuni's story. One had to do with the general premise though:

Spoiler
Oliver seems to get over the death of his mother surprisingly quickly, to the point where it turned some off.

Nothing else I've heard really worries me though, I'm still looking forward to it.

Well I've pretty much decided I'm going to get the FFXIII-2 CE (despite my lack of a PS3 or Xbox 360).

Though which one I'm not sure at this point. Best Buy's CE seems like the best choice for me but I would like the optional Omega boss or even the extra costume.

I'm hoping that the costume and Omega boss battle will eventually be DLC so the book would definitely be best. I curse the person and or entity that thought up releasing three different CE's.
