Update for HighResTexturePacks

Post » Tue May 29, 2012 8:43 pm

It's confirmed that there are at least a couple of errors in Bethesda's free HighResTexture Pack DLC, and I was hoping that this could be fixed with an update.bsa, or lose files, rather than downloading >3GB all over again. That's my 2 cents.

Sorry if I'm overlooking the answer, I've been busy out of town on business and just bought a house!

Thanks

Yep - thats one of the problems with keeping everything in the BSA files once there is one missing piece you have to redownload the entire thing since there is no way to replace just the one file inside the BSA without unpacking and repacking it and since most SW users wouldn't know how to do that it might take awhile for them to figure out what to do - (don't think Steam would appreciate everyone redownloading the 3GB not to mention those on limited internet accounts having to do it !)

And trying to do it with the update.esm won't work since it loads before the esp files so the HD pack would overwrite the changes when it loads - Guess they could make a new BSA and esp that would load after the HD pack to replace the mistakes but that gets sloppy pretty quick.

Gstaff knows about the issue and has forwarded it on to the team. The issue has previously been documented in the following threads:

http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1343750-high-res-textures-pack-somethings-missing-in-riften/
http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1343691-info-detailed-anolysis-of-highres-pack-click-to-learn/

Aside from his comments in the first thread, Gstaff stated on the blog that an update would be coming. Whether this is simply an informational update or an update to the high res texture pack, we'll have to wait and see.

Thanks -- now the question becomes how will Beth repair it ? by this same method or by having Steam redownload the whole 3GB. + mod again once they release a fixed version and Steam forces out the update !

My guess would be a simple BSA Patcher program Maybe, Beth does have such a thing or uses a program called RT-Patcher to do it with. Seen it Oblivion and thought Fallout used it has well for it bsa patches..But we are talking steam here so it may be different..

I like the idea of a tool to unpack and pick the HD tectures you want. All Steam would need to do is allow a properly corrected texture pack to pass as a valid cashe.

If one was to edit the tecture pack. They would end up with a custom .esm just like any other modd. So one would uncheck the DLC packs #1 and #2. Then check thier custom tecture pack.

I realy can't see how they would mis the bloody chopping block in Markarth and Riftin. Has to be more to this than simple error. Someone had to actully change a file name to make this happen. We are talking about someone altering a master file.

One way or the other. I'l fix my HD tecture pack's. Ive been able to drop from 4x AA to 2x AA. Also able to use FXAA for the first time without the odd blur. I had with the low tectures. I also moved up to the beta NVIDIA drivers.

Been playing hours at a time with no problim's. Still getting 60 fps on ultra with the HD textures packs. I have alt tab'd out few times and can see my ram running 3.8 to 4.3 gig. I see almost .7 gig of modifide ram. The GFX Vram hitting 1.4 to 1.5gig.

At this point I would have to think Windows 7 pro 64 bit with min 6 gig system ram, and 2gig of Vram. Is needed to properly run both HD tecture pack's.

I fig with an edit tool for the DLC packs. It would go a long way to help everyone with a 32bit system. To pick the tectures they want. Then discard all the ones they dont need.

RTPatch has a long history, starting from 1991, when it was first released. It has been used by many software companies. Steam should have something similar, apart from the usual file replacing method...

We really don't need to discuss this in a third thread, do we?
