I'm running a battle-mage, at the moment, I am level 24 with my skill level in 1handers @ 57. The damage on my weapon is 24, and it feels like I hit like a wet noodle.

Anyone know where I can find upgrading for 1hander weapons?

You have to level smithing and put some perks into Armsman and preferably one of the three specialties in maces, axes, or swords.
