To users of This Machine

Post » Sat Apr 16, 2011 5:12 pm

Do you guys actually enjoy using it?

It pretty much breaks the game. Anything and everything can be killed in one or two shots. I find it about as much fun as turning on noclip and godmode.

So, seeing as it is the most used gun on this forum, and the crowd's all time favorite, you guy's don't find it imbalanced to the point of ruining the game?

For a comparison, This Machine does more damage than a sniper rifle, and fires 3-4x faster. One AMR shot is equivelent to ~1.8 This Machine shots.

And if you really want an 'I win' button, .308 JSP Hand Load ammo to make almost every shot from This Machine hit as hard as an AMR.

I like it a lot although lately I'm more into semi-automatics. There are other way more overpowered guns than This Machine.

They should have made it use the original 30.06 instead of .308 and give you a limited amount of ammo to even it out or at least make you have to find stripper clips to load it with. Likewise they could have just toned down the power a bit and made it an M-14.

Actually, sniper rifles and Gauss are worst.

Not to mention Pushy and Paladin Toaster

In fact, if you have decent crit rate Multiplas and Flamer will destroy everything.

The gun is pretty much the "Lincoln's Repeater" for New Vegas. Not too hot at long range work but a sniper rifle with at least carbon fiber parts fills that gap nicely.

Lincoln's Repeater is magnificent at long range though.

I use it mostly for deathclaws. Otherwise, I switch between the Mysterious Magnum and Maria (with the occasional 10mm submachine gun).

I have it and don't use it. I just find it out of place and too good, it just makes other weapons feel crap.
I am not in to retro stuff especially weapons. If those old things are that good, army will use them even today.
I don't understand why devs made Assasult rifle so weak and useless. It should be a very good weapon.

If you judge by Fallout game, bunch of regular hunters with old shotguns and lever action rifles will own any army with their rifles. :D

I guess I have a nostalgic streak; I love the way This Machine looks and sounds when firing and reloading.
I agree it's overpowered but I like to carry it as a "just in case" weapon. But then, I also carry a modified 10mm SMG just to clip the wings on Cazadors, so I'm weird. :celebration:

I love how the gun looks and sounds, which makes it all the more annoying that it is ridiculously imbalanced compared to similar rifles... or any other gun for that matter.

Strictly speaking the M1 Garand is still a fantastic weapon today. Particularly in it's .308 Winchester chambering. Patton didn't call the "the best implement of battle ever made" for no reason. Also, it is far more powerful that an M16's 5.56mm round. So, really, the game got it right.

I wish the combat in this game is truly First Person Shooter but it is not in Fallout although it looks like a fps. The M1 Garand will truly powerful in a fps type setup since you can take out targets further out before you have to deal with the SMGs.

Go try it in Call of Duty: World at War online multiplayer.

Fun facts about the .308 weapons with guns skill of 50:

Hunting Rifle

32 (48 JSP) damage, 1.0/sec refire rate, 60 AP cost

Sniper Rifle

48 (72 JSP) damage, 1.6/sec refire rate, 38 AP cost

Gobi

50 (75 JSP) damage, 1.7/sec refire rate, 33 AP cost

This Machine

56 (84 JSP) damage, 2.2/sec refire rate, 22 AP cost

For giggles:

AMR

90 (103.5 Match) damage, 0.4/sec refire rate, 65 AP cost

I'd agree that Gauss, especially the unique variant, is a tad bit more overpowered - with the possible exception that is uses more ammo pe shot.

Last time I checked the YCS/186 (unique Gauss Rifle) uses 4 MFCs per shot while the normal Gauss Rifle uses 5. Its one of the major reasons why I never get the Wild-Wasteland trait because I like the YCS/186 too much :whistling:

I used the machine for gaint radscorpions but it just seems a bit like the service rifle in terms of sights being a little hard to use, even with a maxed gun skill at anything farther then close range i miss at least half of my shots even when the target is holding still and i'm crouched and holding still, maybe its just me but i have an easier time just using a hunting rifle or sniper rifle since on very easy-easy theres not much that needs this machine's damage output.

If you have 20% crit and -better criticals perk-, this statement is false.

that being said, the 8 rounds are nice and can be usefull in tight situations when compared to SR.

Honestly, I find the gun useful. Don't get me wrong, I'm not running around with it out gunning down anyone/thing that looks at me wrong, but I find the gun unique and interesting. I see it's power the same way I see the Anti-Material rifle or a Light Machine Gun, or the Alien Blaster - yeah, it's powerful. If you like it, use it! If not, then no one's forcing you to use it. I think that just because some people feel it's 'overpowered', doesn't mean it should be taken out or anything. I mean, would you want to take on a Deathclaw with a 9mm handgun, even Maria? I wouldn't, at least not without about a thousand rounds of ammunition and about two thousand health. Just because it;s powerful doesn't mean it's bad or wrong to use.

the marksman and all american rifle are both pretty good and because of the rate which they fire they can take a lot of enemies out in short order, you just have to fire a few more shots but the DPS number is pretty high, veronica equips it when i give her ammo for it.

Depends. If you mean in raw DPS, this machine can outdamage any snuper rifle but only in medium or closer range. It also depends on the targets DT.
Assuming high agility/luck and all the crit reltated/reload perks.

With little to no DT, the gobi will do 180 DPS, while TM will do 200 DPS.
They break about even on medium DT, and gobi pulls ahead on highly armored targets.
