Using Steam Cloud to keep the same save file everywhere?

Post » Sat Jun 09, 2012 6:51 pm

Hi there!
I'm playing skyrim on 3 different PC depending on when I play (midday/night/week end) and if I want my save file to be up to date, I have to take the save file on an USB device, and paste it to the PC so I can continue.
I was wondering if, using steamcloud (like I do for saving screenshot), since each user has a 1Go storage, it couldnt be automatic. Uploading the latest save file when skyrim closes, and uploading automatically when steam is launched if it sees it's not the same save file. (Like a versioning tool would do).
Of course not everyone is playing on several different PC (that's why it should only be an option btw)but i'm sure it would be useful for some of us.

Thx for reading!

Steam Cloud is capable of it but it's a feature that has to be enabled for each game on their side. I don't know why it's not supported for Skyrim. If you're looking for alternatives you could try Dropbox.

Another option, (although a lame one), is to write an email to yourself with the save attached, then save it as a draft. Voila, save accessible from anywhere you can log into your email client.

The Save files are so large that sending 12MB back and forth would eat up a lot of bandwidth. Also, back when it was enabled for New Vegas, it did not work very well. Saves were getting mixed up, even after they fixed it, so it was dropped from that game. The save mixups came from the various ways people approach saving, and since it was the Autosaves that were backed up, people making manual save slots sometimes got their saves mixed up.

The best way to Cloud back up saves for this game, is to do it yourself at the end of the gaming session to a cloud storage site. Or do it old school and use Sneakernet with a USB Thumb Drive.
