using the new 4gb after the patch.

Post » Sun May 27, 2012 11:09 am

I never changed Skyrim from it's default, but I have 4gb of ram, and I heard the 1.3.1 patch supports 4gb.

do I need to do anything to make that happen? or does the game just know I have more ram and use it?

Get rid of the 4GB mod, you do not need it anymore.

I'd also like to know what to do if you are using Boris's ENBSeries patch?

I know that I'm sorry.. I had the mod I guess it's what you guys call it that allowed me to play the game on all 3 monitors I have, but just now I went to play the game and apparently Steam updated it and now my mod won't launch so when I launch the game through Steam it plays but everything is back to being huge :(

Have you checked the resolution setting for the game? With the new patch, your settings will have reset, and may be using a new resolution. Just change it back to what you had before in the launch screen.

You have to give more info...computer specs...dxdiag...graphic driver version. What is your resolution? Hard to help without details mate.

Sounds like an issue you need to bring up at the place you got the mod from or its forum thread, not in some random post.

Also if you don't know what your doing, its a bad idea to mod, best to read up about modding and how to install/uninstall and other general modding info.

What is this?

If you kept your original download, there should be a README file that explains how to uninstall.

I started it, and it was not about modded, but unmodded. and I don't mind at all. conversation evolves and emerges...

I wish I could be of help, but since a) i did not mod B) I am techno newb...I would be useless.

If you can't find the files that were modded and as such can't uninstall one option would be to uninstall the game using Steam (Right click on the game in your library - Right click and delete local content. Then in your My Documents Skyrim folder delete the ini files. But only do this if you don't mind having a totally unmodded game again. Then re-install within Steam!

This is radical but would seem to be the only way of you getting the game back to default if you can't remember which mod needs to be uninstalled

Just to note as it wasn't mentioned, users of 32-bit Windows need to give a specific switch in boot options to have an application use more than 2GB, and they're still restricted to 3GB. 64-bit users get the whole 4GB if they have MORE than 4GB (as Windows and other apps need RAM too). Google "3gb boot switch" if you use 32-bit Windows, have 4GB of RAM, and have stability problems with Skyrim.

To enable the 3GB switch on Windows Vista? or Windows 7:
  • Right-click Command Prompt in the Accessories program group of the Start menu. Click Run as Administrator.
  • At the command prompt, enter "bcdedit /set IncreaseUserVa 3072"
  • Restart the computer.
To disable the 3GB switch:
  • Right-click on Command Prompt in the Accessories program group of the Start menu. Click Run as Administrator.
  • At the command prompt, enter "bcdedit /deletevalue IncreaseUserVa"
  • Restart the computer.

For XP, just edit the Boot.ini file with the appropriate switch (/3gb) and reboot.
