It is true. Hoover Dam and Caesars Legion being the most glaring examples (though both have been reworked a bit to fit in this game - iirc).

Yup. Stuff like the Hoover Dam and obviously Vegas is going to be in it. Most of the stuff is going to rely on history of Fallout, though, such as NCR and BoS.

They were also able to combine Big Gun and Small Gun to just "Gun".

Apparently Van Buren had the Burned Man as a possible NPC companion.

I still can't believe how much the Burned Man is talked about in NV and yet he doesn't make an appearance anywhere. He had damned well better be in a DLC. :P

New Caanan was also in Van Buren.
Brotherhood and NCR war was also part of Van Buren.
One thing that they failed to bring in from Van Buren was Trogs.... I call [censored] design decision on that part. <_<

Alot of key things in New Vegas use Van Buren documents, albeit altered. Hoover Dam, as others have said, was to be in Van Buren. In Van Buren Hoover Dam would have been a settlement on the top of the Dam, and Trogs in the below areas inside. There were other intents too, but as said, New Vegas cuts out bits and pieces of VB and hashes it up to a new use.

Gotta bear in mind folks that a lot of the Obsidian guys never stopped creating more fallout, from what I understand they had regular PnP games where concepts like Ceasars' legion came from. I'm sure I read somewhere that some things they included because to them they were estalished canon, even though they'd never appeared anywhere but their PnP games.

They already did Trogs in fallout 3 and as the water in the area is clean they wouldn't have made much sense.

That's quite a creative way to flesh out game ideas. Give them a test run with the old PnP.

They were Bethesda's "Trogs", I'm talking about Black Isle's Trogs.
The one's in Van Buren were civilized mutated rednecks.
Not savage resident evil lickers look alike's.

It's kind of interesting. If Lake Mead in NV had been the radioactive "monster-infested" lake it was in Van Buren, then Bethesda's way of doing Trogs could've worked.

On the other hand, Swampfolk essentially are Van Buren's Trogs. Give me a couple of those guys and I'd be happy. :)

Nu-uh..
VBTrogs were civilized and even stayed around with the NCR at Hoover Dam.
PLTrogs were savages who just killed everything on sight.
Not even their appearance was very similar to one another. :/

Meh, I prefer my mutant hillbillies Deliverance-style.

'sides, the Swampfolk were only hostile to outsiders. As far as I can tell from Point Lookout's few NPCs, the Swampfolk were downright pleasant if you were a local.

He's actually called the 'Hanged Man' in Van Buren, but he basically has the same story.

When I was growing up, during school I was just getting into heavy metal and started wearing more alternative clothes, particular a lot of black (now any more thankfully) and my friends and I used to get called Trogs all the time. Trog apparently being a rather bizarre term for what was essentially, a mosher. When I first heard about Trogs being in Fallout, I was in hysterics if only because I envisoned a big gang of heavy metal kids flicking the horns and rocking out - Brutal Legend in the Fallout world....

You were actually being called a Caveman. Trog is short for Troglodyte - Cave Dweller.

They were also able to combine Big Gun and Small Gun to just "Gun".

Which is much better than their original plan of combining ALL PROJECTILE/LASER FIRING WEAPONS to just "Firearms."

But yes, this game derives a lot from Van Buren. So much so that I'd say that Van Buren has gone from debatable/not canon (Fallout BoS) to semi canon (Fallout Tactics).

Let's hope that if they make a Fallout game in Texas that they don't reference anything from Fallout BoS. If any part of that atrocity is ever considered canon (except for maybe city names and some weapons), I will probably end up punching a hole into my monitor.

I'd go the other way. I'd say there are enough contradictions with VB for it to be no more canon than the leaked early design documents of FO1. Some of the ideas are there, but there's significant changes.
