VATS targeting of inanimate objects

Post » Mon May 16, 2011 9:26 am

I know that this is kind of late, but, in an update, I would like to see the ability to target inanimate objects in VATS. In Fallout 3 there was an area where ghouls are practically standing on fire extinguishers. I would have really liked to target then sometimes. I like to get some enemies as colatteral damage. Like targeting cars that they were standing by.

Is it really that hard to aim at a stationary object? Even at a distance, if you just have a scoped weapon or anything with a small spread, you shouldn't have any trouble hitting the target.

O hai u haz same pic as me lolrofl.

OT: I can see this as an option called "Free Aim" where its vats, but without the selection highlights. Like where you can aim anywhere on screen, and vats continues as normal.

Thoughs?

That isn't a problem. By the time I have to use VATS, they are already charging me. That is what I was wondering about.

It would be really a pain in the butt. I enjoy vats but sometimes it really bugs me. I go to vats to shoot the person in front of me and vats swings me around to someone behind me. So I have to keep selecting targets till I get the my original target. It would be even more annoying if everytime I went to shoot someone vats selects objects as well :shakehead:

Offtopic: There you are, congratz on winning the CE, but also curse you for winning with such an obvious question
Ontopic: At times it would be nice, but when I think about it it would probably get kind of annoying cycling between half a dozen cars or explosives on screen to target a certain enemy

Toggleable option perhaps? Here's how I'd set up the options:

1. Full. This targets any object that will physically move.
2: Partial. This only targets objects that explode when hit
3: OFF! This one is pretty self explanatory.

Personally I've never had a problem hitting explosive objects free-aim. Hell I can hit the moving targets in free-aim pretty well.

Iron sights will make this much easier as well.

You should know that every time a fan suggests a toggle that the devs delay NV for a week.

I don't really like the idea so much myself, and i bet console players would hate it. I also agree that even small stationary objects are easy to hit.

No I remember when Fallout 3 came out they toyed around with the idea but decided against it. I don't want it now.

I have to agree that targeting inanimate objects in VATS seems unnecessary, while it's true that sometimes I try to shoot at explosive objects and such when enemies are near them, since they're stationary targets, it's generally not hard to hit them, so being able to target them in VATS would be unnecessary, it would just mean more things to cycle through, I don't want to have to keep sifting through targets until I get to the one I want to shoot at because there's nots of things I don't want to shoot in view...

That made me laugh so hard. I wasn't going to post but read that and decided to at least say thank you for the good laugh. Made my day.
