Vault 11...

So... has anyone been to Vault 11?

I went in and once again, they have smacked me with the level of immersion.

By the time I left the vault I had gotten nauseous and had to turn off the radio.

It was REALLY sad.

Dooooooooooooooooooooooooooood !

I entered vault 11 randomly poking here and there, trying to find as much info as I can. I WAS COMPLETELY BLOWN AWAY ! This was 1 of those times I got off my chair and bowed down before my computer screen like a tribal worshiping the writers. Especially the confession of a particular 'candidate' before getting 'elected'. Also when you know the fate of the last of the vault's residents.........oh the irony !

THIS was my best NV experience till date.

Vault 11 was probably the best vault in the game, story wise. It really got across the message that these Vaults weren't necessarily to save the population from a nuclear holocaust, but were really social experiments.

The other vaults weren't that great, story-wise, I felt.

Spoiler

Vault 34. Only real storyline is that it was a vault with a huge armory, the Boomers wanted to use the weapons, but couldn't, so they left. Then the overcrowding led to the overseer wanting to 'control' the population, which led to riots, which led to leaked radioactive materials that ghoulified or killed whoever was left.

Vault 22. Science gone wrong. Could have been a more horror movie style vault though. The computer terminals get that sense of "OH MY GOD! SOMETHING'S TRYING TO GET IN AND KILL US!" or "OH MY GOD, THE DEAD ARE WAKING UP!", but it's only just a few creatures, IMO. Nothing too terrifying.

Vault 3. Was supposed to be a control vault, and the inhabitants were just normal people. They opened it up to trade and stuff when the flooding of the vault occurred, but then the Fiends showed up and presumably killed everybody. It would have been perhaps cooler if instead, the Fiends didn't invade, but were the original inhabitants? Maybe the vault was overstocked on chems and drugs, and that led to people becoming insane (as the Fiends seem to be)?

Vault 19. Only other one that may have had an interesting story. They segregated the population into Red and Blue to simulate racism. The combination of sulfur in the ventilation ducts, pre-existing cases of mental illness, and perhaps subliminal messaging led to a lot of paranoia. I don't know if they ever expanded on what, exactly, happened to that population though...

I am still to find Vault 11.
Reading all these "tributes" to the vault really builds up my anticipation, but i refuse to go check the wiki maps! Randomly finding it is more my liking, but damn the craving is getting stronger.

Vault 11 has easily the best vault storyline I've seen in either FO3 or FONV. Maybe even a better storyline than 80 - 85% of any of the other questlines. I'm going through the vault, reading stuff, thinking to myself "what's going on" About 3/4 of the way through I figure most of it out and I'm just stunned. Amazing writing on this mini quest.

There is a quest line that will send yo there is interested. I have no idea if you are spending more time investigating than questing. The quest givers tend to have loud footsteps.

I just wonder why all that firepower in the "death chamber" was necessary. Who was their overseer? Godzilla?

But that silly quibble aside, Vault 11 is my new favorite vault. It's just too bad that the only thing the courier did down there was kill vermin and read journals. Seems like the devs could have done more with it.

Vault 11 was the only zone that had illicited an honest fulfilling gut-wrenching response from me.

I left that Vault feeling many emotions, not least of all was the emotion of complete rage for being totally screwed out of the entire House questline before ever stepping into Vegas because some dimwit decided to make the turrets in the last room factioned with House, so when I was FORCED to either kill them, or die horribly, I was immediately vilified by Mr. House, and every robot in his casino.
YAY TOTAL LACK OF QUALITY CONTROL.

Those. Are some giant letters. Im not going to type out my whole opinion because I already did in the other thread but yes Vault 11 is amazing and will probably be my favorite memory from NV.

Like I said earlier, I really wish that even one or two of the other Vaults would have had a such immersion. 11 really pulls you in, and actually, ends up leaving you wanting more. I mean,
Spoiler
5 survivors, but 4 gunshots and only 4 bodies by the entrance?! WHAT HAPPENED TO THE FIFTH GUY?!

Listen to the audio log again. There's a deeper meaning to your findings at the entrance ;)

Mind expanding on that? I want to see if you know something I don't.

Spoiler
You find 4 skeletons and 1 gun; where there were 5 survivors. They do not speak of going outside, but come to terms that they are not the 'shining beacons' and commit suicide ("I'll go first"). The last one however does not commit suicide and goes out into the wastes. Maybe to tell of the horrible things they did in that vault so it would not happen again. At least that's what I believe to have happened :)

Yes, while I was curious about the fifth guy. I still was in awe about this story. Things like this have happened before, the gut-wrenching I got from this tidbit still haunts me a bit.

No, I got that. But the fact that you don't know what happened to the last one, makes you want to know more.

omg I loved the ending of it, but the vault that topped it had to be the one with the plants, that was like the creepiest place ever, I just wish the creatures were tougher
