Vendors (not) wearing armours sold to them

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 7:02 pm

How do you stop vendor NPCs from wearing armours sold to them? I am talking about the NPC vendors from the default game, not mod added ones. NPCs always equip the armours with the highest 'value' (not sure if they are going by DT right now or caps value). I seem to recall there was a way to fix this in FO3, but I haven't found any information about it. Thanks.

Maybe http://geck.gamesas.com/index.php/EquipItem with the NoUnequipFlag, forcing the item you want them to wear?

Thanks for that suggestion JO. Although I was under the impression that there was a "load in GECK and click this box...." solution to this issue. I am fairly certain this bug was addressed in FO3 by either Quarn or one of the overhaul mods like FOOK. I am fiarly sure that at some point, after a certain version of FO3 UOP or after installing FOOK for FO3, I stopped encountering this bug. Isn't it silly how so many bugs and oversight eventually corrected by patch or modders in Oblivion and FO3 would resurface in FNV? It's like there's no continuity to development of game sequels....

I sure do not recall ever seeing vendors in FO3 equip armor that I sold them.

Moira woulda looked funny walking around in Enclave power armor.

Doesn't the use of dedicated vendor containers prevent this?

Indeed. That is how mod added vendors are able to avoid the problem altogether. What I don't understand is why default NPCs exhibit this behaviour even when they have dedicated containers tagged with their personal ownership. I am not trying to argue with you, but I -am- fairly certain I was using a mod that correct this in FO3 because I habitually sold armours to Moira and scavengers (who were the worst offenders) and never saw them wear any of them after my list grew to include many overhaul mods. It was not a mod dedicated to this but something that included this fix. I could only guess that it would be the UFP or FOOK that could cover that range of NPCs.

it's probably unrealistic for the vendors to wear power armor all the time, but why wouldn't they wear the best armor they can get their hands on in a world full of hostiles?

Moira et al had vendor containers.

I don't either. But I've seen it once in NV. One of the merchants that hangs around Novac. I sold him the spacesuit and helmet I lifted from a certain building/quest. He donned it, and now wanders the area decked out in the suit + helmet. Looks goofy as hell...but hey...whatever works I guess : )

a vendor container is what they need to avoid the items going into their personal inventory.

Alright, I realize this thread is getting longer and some people may not be reading every reply, but still....

Anyways, let's try another approach to track down the issue and the fix. In my current game, there is one default vendor NPC who is wearing a suit of metal armour I sold to him: Contreras at Camp McCarren. Now, he has a vendor container, so unless it is being flagged improperly, something else is causing him to equip sold armour. Thoughts?

it is because he has no vendor container set on his REF. If he actually HAS one, it means FoNV devs might have forgotton to actually stick it onto him.

Well...I'll be, how did I miss that. I just set Contreras' vendor container on his REF and it seems to have fixed the bug, but would need some more testing. I wonder if there are any other NPC vendors with unreferenced vendor containers ....better check out Novac.

Thanks Tarrant.
