Very Random 'Random Encounter'

Post » Sun Feb 03, 2013 10:45 pm

The First Day Dragonborn came out, I did what everyone else probably did and started exploring Solstheim, waiting for the Cultists to find me (Although, they didn't untill I want back to Skyrim), and then I came across something VERY peculiar...

There was this Mage talking about the old Levitation spell, and he has found out how to do it. I was deeply interested in seeing this spell work, and thought it was one of the new spells added with the DLC.
The Mage psyched himself up, chanted a load of rubbish, and then started to cast the spell.

It was like one of the master Illusion spells, where you wave your arms around in a windmilling improvisation. All the Red Magicka stuff surrounded him, and then he Shot-Off into the air at high speed shouting something like, "It worked! IT WORKED!!!"

I was literally in Awe of this Guy, untill then the reality of things hit me...

He just came Plummeting to the ground, and basically splatted on the floor.

Has anyone else seen this?
If you havn't, look around for him, it's Hillarious!

This may be a direct Easter Egg to him, or something very simular.
Apart from you actually see this guy Taking Off, which is Unbelievably Funny.

I saw it too! I was going from the Skaal village to Neloth. I was walking along the beach looking at the waves when I heard him reassuring himself. He said something about learning how to fly and learning it in "A Black Book". It was pretty cool. The spell was red, by the way, and he was by no means a master wizard. He had the voice of the elf from Riverwood. Actually, I still have his note of ramblings in my house.

I believe it's one of the "Must See" things in Solstheim.

Oh I saw this recently! He went so high I kinda lost where he was for a moment! Didn't find him on my first playthrough of Dragonborn but I recently replayed it with another character and found him somewhere in the northern part of the island. But I'm sure its just random where he spawns. Definitly an easter egg for those who have played Morrowind.

I've only found him once, but I'm always on the look-out for him again.

It's a Random Encounter.
So it could happen Anywhere on Solstheim, apart from IN Ravenrock, or in the direct vicinity of Tel Mithryn.

Don't worry. He doesn't fly unless you're very close to him. Otherwise, he'll just loudly shout out reassuring yells to himself. There's also a pretty impressive visual effect, so it'd be hard to miss.

yeah- it's a random encounter.

If you loot him, I think there's a journal that mentions how he ate the book that gave him the levitation spell. Basically it's Bethesda saying 'never gonna happen again.'

I got distracted by some ashspawn and when I went back to where I thought the body should be, could not find it. Was real disappointed I never got to find out a bit more about the mysterious flyer. The current character has not seen him yet, despite exploring most of the island.

i laughed when i saw it.. i wondered if there was a way to save him, like cast healing hand just before he hit... but probably not. when he flew into the sky then came back down, i thought it was a glitch at first like the occasional flying horse, etc.

This sounded so ridiculous I thought it was a troll attempt until I saw other people backing it up. Must see this. o_o

What about... timing a Fus Ro Dah at the right moment and the right angle, or maybe the cyclone shout? Perhaps if you can get the encounter to spawn near some water?

I have to say, when I saw what was happening, I got pretty excited. I was hoping beyond hope there would be some Icarian Flight scrolls on him, but to no avail. Definitely one of my favourite easter eggs.

Yeah. It's rather hillarious that he ATE the book to gain it's knowledge.
Perhaps that's what I was doing wrong all this time! DAMN!
School would have been so much easier if I'de have just ate all the books I was given...
