A very serious problem with Skyrim

Post » Tue May 29, 2012 8:47 pm

Hello.
I have been googling around for about a day now, and have found nothing of sort, and nothing to help me at all..
So I had skyrim installed to my PC. I stopped playing it until the creation kit comes out. I bought a new graphcis card (Geforce GTX 560 Ti), and a week before CK came out, I reinstalled Windows and formatted hard drives. I did not even start Skyrim after I had installed the graphics card.
So, 2 days before CK came out, I reinstalled Skyrim. Steam version and all. I didn't start the game, waiting for some mods to be updated and such. So I installed the mods a day after CK came out, started up Skyrim, and what do I see..

Well, see for yourself, I took a video of it. It's very hard to explain.. Looks like a shader problem to me, but I'm no expert in these kinda things. The same happened in-game, alot of textures "missing" (as in being the same bluish hue as the menu). The logo is also same hue if you can't see it in on video.

I reinstalled Skyrim. It continued. I were using the latest beta of Geforce drivers, I downgraded them to latest "public" release. Nope. I tried every graphics setting, ultra, high, medium, low, nothing. Same continued.

I am running absolutely no mods, no modifications to the INI or Geforce settings, nothing. I have to ask you for help, because I don't know what to do, and I'd really like to play the game.

Thanks in advance.

I haven't seen that particular problem before. You didn't have this same problem before getting your new video card? Are you having any issues while playing other games?

Other thoughts -- you should post your PC specs. You might also try to re-install your graphics drivers. Try this, it's a very long read but it might help:

I guess you tried playing without any of the mods?

Specs :
Asus P5B-E Plus motherboard
Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 3.2 GHz processor
Gigabyte Geforce GTX 560 Ti 1GB stock OC graphics card
6 GB DDR2 RAM

I re-installed my graphics drivers (downgraded to latest "public" release), and yes, I am playing without any mods or anything. Completely fresh, patched up game.

Try verifying the integrity of the game cache.

In Steam, right click on Skyrim, go to properties. Select the Local Files tab and click VERIFY INTEGRITY OF GAME CACHE.

If you are using the high-resolution texture pack, I'd disable that. I ran into a somewhat similar problem where a wood chopping block was blue and purple (in other words, the normal map was displayed instead of the texture). Aside from that, this impacted performance to the point where I removed the hi-res texture pack anyway.

From what you've shown, it looks like the game is unable to find the textures to the dragon logo and the mist that appears in the background, for some reason rendering the normal map of those objects instead.

Oh, wow.. is there any way to delete this thread?
For some reason when uninstalling Skyrim it hadn't deleted my ini prefs. Could be due to my 2 hard drives and regedit tweaking.. so some of the tweaks i made there caused it. I deleted them manually, and it works perfectly now.

Thanks for the help, even though it didn't solve the problem :P
