My Views on Skyrim (Pros and Cons)

Post » Sun Jun 10, 2012 7:12 pm

Let me start by saying that this is one hell of a game. Beth did an amazing job on everything. The story is great, and the different factions are wonderfully done as well. I would have liked to have seen custom spellmaking, but it's really not that big of a deal. The changes to the level up system are awesome, and the perk system is pretty sweet.

I really only have one major complaint. The vibe. Not the vibe of Skyrim, they played off the civil war and apocalyptic thing pretty well. However, the game just doesn't grab me like Oblivion did. I played that game for an astounding amount of time, with almost 1000 game saves. I've only had Skyrim for a couple months, and I've already gone several weeks without wanting to play it. Without a doubt, it's a good game, it just doesn't hold my fascination like TES IV did.

As a side note, while I do enjoy the altered leveling system and the removal of the skill system from IV, I feel like it was designed to cater more to the casual gamer, rather than their already faithful fans. It really isn't that big of a deal, as long as they don't take it too far. I think it's fine where it's at right now.

All in all, good game. Keep up the good work.

The writing in Skyrim is terribly shallow, the dialogue is even worse. Oh well. :(

Better then skyrim were you beat a quest line for a guild in an hour or that the npcs just keep saying the same thing over and over again.

The quantity may be better but the quality is by no means better or even good IMO.

One thIng that did annoy me about Skyrim was the poor faction questlines. It was one of the things I was looking forward to the most because I enjoyed them so much in Oblivion. But, they just failed to grab me in the same way and I felt Bethesda just chucked in the radiant questlines to cover the awfully short actual questlines. This was a huge mistake by Bethesda in my opinion and it really felt like a huge chunk of the game was missing.

But almost everything else in Skyrim has been done better than Oblivion...

Lets see in oblivion dark brotherhood one of the very first quests you have to make a kill look like acctident by droping a deer head on a man and get out without his bodygaurd knowing your even in the house, in the 4th mission you need to posion a man to get him out of his debt and not kill the man that is after him that list just goes on and on. The npcs in oblivion will remember almost everything you do lets say your the crusader you kill a man they will remember that and will not think you are holy man/woman ever again, and with skyrim all you get is Ulfric patron of the great clan battle born twenty times in a row and maybe you will get lucky. the gaurds sure they know you but they are the biggest morons in the entire game So your the newest member of the companions so what do you do fetch the mead? I hear that every time I enter skyrim hell with every guild they act like I'm the lowest ranking member of the guild still yet I am all of their leaders so no sir it is quantity and quality unlike skyrim were the most life I could find in npcs was their dead heads telling me to Get out or you took the wrong patch stanger.

I've never touched Oblivion or any other pre-skyrim game.

Did I miss something?

Skyrim isn't flawless, but it's pretty damn awesome

hey great man, it's just like you walked into a church and began preaching to the quire. You do realize you are in a Skyrim fanbased forum. Don't you logically think that we have already played the game 100s of hours and before that seen a handful of professional reviews already? Thus, it should go without saying we don't need some snobish kids review of the game who that doesn't even know what he/she is talking about to begin with. You should go to gamespot, they got people that are posting straight from the speical schools that have speical kids from the 3rd grade. You'd fit right in.

I love the way Skyrim looks.I could just walk around all day and take in the scenery.Unfortunately I played FONV before this where you had to think before every choice you made and that's what I miss in this game.I'm getting a little bored and that scares me.I waited so long for this game and it just seems like something is missing.

Because any character can raise any skill, and because characters gain power from raising any skill, the new leveling system fits the last few TES games better than the old class-constrained ones do. Players who have been fans of the series since Daggerfall (and maybe since Arena), requested years ago that classes be dropped. You can be the hardest-core TES fan around and be glad of the change. :)

skyrim beats OB on EVERY level

but morrowind still holds the best quest depth title (MQ that is...) and it had more NPCs (but it was text based so it was pretty easy to make up names and copy paste text dialog)

all in all Skyrim is a pretty frigging good game only worthy games that can compare for me are dark messiah's combat "fun" (different ways to kill enemies and best Teleknesis ...EVER) and MW interconecting quest choices and factions.

I liked Oblivions Thieves Guild and Dark Brotherhood more. I like pretty much every thing else Skyrim did better though. Though it does also need more spells.

Wasn't much better than Oblivion's "Steal things and then steal a big thing" TG quest that ended with a pointless twist.
To be honest it was better than Skyrims TG quest which was probably 1 half decent heist and a load of common thug and dungeon quests. Goldenglow and Markarth were the only quests where you couldnt kill anyone.

Anyway, back on topic, Skyrim was an amazing game and yes, anyone can see that a lot of time and effort went in to it. In my personal opinion and experience, Skyrims few shortcomings are far outweighed by everything else.

Oblivion had its flaws too, but you should make an attempt to play oblivion, its a pretty good game with good questlines.

Atmosphere as in, Oblivions clichéd Black vs white atmosphere, Skyrims deep grey and dark atmosphere is way better.

We dont need minotaurs, we have Hag ravens, Giants, wisp mothers and alot more.

And destruction spells actually look different then each other

Conjuration actually allows you to have multiple summons and permanent summons available

And combat does not feel like your hitting the air.

ill agree that the permanent summons is cool, but ill take a much bigger variety of summonable creatures over having two flame atronachs summoned at the same time.

Closing for review.

I am re-opening the thread after taking out almost all of one person's posts, and quite a few others. We don't mind disagreement on this forum, but if your scorn or rude behavior is so obvious that it generates multiple reports before the thread is two pages old, then we do have a problem.

Not really, oblivion had 22 summon spells while Skyrim has 17. So I wouldn't say that Oblivion had so many more summon spells, more yes but far from the quantity people seem to think existed in the game.
