Visiting Towns question

Post » Sun Jun 03, 2012 7:03 pm

Im not sure how to put it in words

Ok so im practically done with Whiterun's quests, which was quite a lot of visited caves. And here is the dilemma. Now either i go to Riften and continue, or go to ALL cities, and pick up all the quests. Do you guys visit all the towns for quest checking. Basically using towns as nothing more as hop stations. Or do you travel or do things where the road leads. Or something.

Im asking because it seems visiting a cave, which is a potential quest location breaks the quest, so im missing out. But if i am in a Riften Cave which has a quest given in Solitude, than that would require me to visit Solitude first. So i cant just go around Riften and kill stuff, and would have regulary check cities, but thats kinda immersion breaking.

Im kinda undecided. I hope you guys understand what im asking about.

On my first character i went around all the towns as i was led there, collecting quests willy-nilly. but then i found some quest bugs, and also the full quest journal really bugged me, so the next time, i stayed in one town till i had done all the quests and moved on once i was done. i'm level 54 now, and havent been to falkreath at all yet. it really depends on your game style, i like to be super-organised, so this works best for me. Theres no avoiding the bugs really though - if theyre gonna happen, they will.

I generally will explore the land and find caves and whatnot but not enter them. I like to wait to enter caves. I have plenty of quests to keep me busy. If a cave doesn't seem to have any of my current quests leading to it I may do some cave diving but it's not often that I do that. I've only been playing for about 80 or 90 hours and there is a TON of Skyrim I still have to explore. But, I've not had any quest bugs to date.

It seems easier to go around and pick up all of the quests you can find before really starting any. That way, you can pick a location to go and continue finishing the closest objective. It is a quick way to finish off many quests. On the other side, that kind of takes the role playing aspect out of it, for me at least. When I do that, it becomes formulaic and the game begins to bore me since I don't really remember what I'm doing or why I'm doing it.

Right now, I am trying to complete each quest before starting a new one. I feel a little less ADD about it.

Meh, the powergamer and the perfectionist in me wants to travel to every city, but the roleplayer warns me not to do this.

Yeah, my deciding factor is usually how much time I have for gaming in a given day.

I've played it different ways with different characters. My current character is a Nord, who was returning to Skyrim after having been away for many years. I progressed her through the main quest to Riverwood, did a couple of side-quests there, then headed to Whiterun to continue the MQ. After exploring Whiterun, she decided to take the carriage to the other cities to see what effect the war was having on the country (which led to talking to a lot of people & picking up quests, etc.) and also trying to find a city she liked well enough to settle down in eventually.

My previous character was an Imperial Mage, and after getting to Riverwood headed to Solitude first, to check on joining the Legion, and to gain some experience before heading to the College of Mages in Winterhold. From there, he journeyed where the quests took him. It was many, many levels & game days later before getting to Markarth or Falkreath.

Seriously you're wasting your time worrying about the quests. Chances are if you wander around a whole lot you nay break some dumb side quest or radient. However the quests in Skyrim are one of gte weaker features, just none are all that great. While wandering the countryside exploring [censored] and discovering all the things going on out there is the definitive part of Skyrim, the open world is the best ever produced by gaming and you're missing it by worrying about quests. Get your ass out of town and go wander around, no destination no nothing just one gamer experiencing one of the greatest achievements in gaming.

I like to visit the cities first to see what they look like and to pick out all the quests they have to offer for me.

I dunno. Depends, I suppose.

I've occasionally just traveled along the coastline and checked out whatever I bumped into. I've been doing similar in the Rift, too. I've met with a few quests that led me to caves I had already cleared- but the quest wasn't ruined for me.

I like to go where my curiosity leads me. Sticking to one town or one faction just doesn't work for me. Usually after 2 or 3 quests I find something pulling me, whether it's a good storyline/treasure I've heard about, or a new city I haven't seen; and I'll walk away and persue something else.

I made the mistake when I first got this game of choosing factions/guilds and trying to go from beginning to end - did not work. Then I remembered how I played MW, and then OB - just going where the wind blew me. That's when Skyrim became fun for me.
