Vivec's Return

Just a random thought. Do you think Vivec might eventually come back? We were told he was kidnapped by Daedra but wasn't killed so there is that chance, right?

But what if earth is Nirn at an early stage? Impossible? If I vivec say so then it must be right. Because I am saying it is. CHIM works in mysterious ways...

You are not Vivec and Nirn is not Earth. Nirn is too cool to ever become Earth.

According to http://www.imperial-library.info/content/loveletter-fifth-era-true-purpose-tamriel, Twice Vehk broke the C0DA when he returned.
So yes he will return, its prophesised by a letter from the future.

I have always thought that this would make for an awesome DLC. Vivec is one of the most interesting and detailed characters in the TES universe, and his return would be most welcome. A DLC based around him telling his story post-Morrowind/Tribunal and perhaps some insight into the real events at Red Mountain and Indoril Nerevar (if his word is even to be trusted) would be a great throwback for the long-time fans. He's The Elder Scrolls version of Fallout's Burned Man, Joshua Graham.

Some questline involving breaking him from Azura's grip would be a good start. If they wanted to make it a bit deeper, they could have the player help Vivec learn to deal with his dwindling immortality and eventual loss of Godlike powers from the Heart's destruction. Maybe he could even give the player the option to end his life if they lead him to think he can't live without them.

Vivec's return shall be as a dragon-sload false god to naked goblins of the Velothi mountain range.

On the other hand, it's possible to interpret the Loveletter as some bizarre form of pro-Vivec propaganda. The bit about "Know Love to avoid Landfall," which reminds me of a passage from the Sermons of Vivec: "I shall keep it [the Ministry of Truth] there with its last intention intact, so that if the love of the people of this city for me ever disappear, so shall the power that holds back their destruction."

In other words, behave yourself, kids, or bad [censored] is going to befall you.

@ the OP - it's not exactly clear what happened to Vivec in the first place. The "kidnapped by Daedra" line in Oblivion is likely a way to cover for the fact that you may have killed Vivec during your MW playthrough, or you may not have. What's implied in Oblivion is that no one knows what happened to Vivec, his kidnapping being just a theory.

He could have been killed by the Nerevarine, in which case chances are slim he'll come back. Or he was kidnapped by Daedra, in which case who knows. Or, if you take http://www.imperial-library.info/content/trial-vivec as part of the canon, Vivec kicked Azura in the face at some point and ran off...somewhere. In which case he could be back, but again, who knows.

EDIT:
Some questline involving breaking him from Azura's grip would be a good start. Maybe he could even give the player the option to end his life if they lead him to think he can't live without them.

Difficulty: it's been 200+ years since Vivec lost his immortality during the events of Morrowind. Even assuming he's around and not dead, kidnapped, or off achieving CHIM or whatever actually happened in the Trial of Vivec (), I would be very surprised if he were still alive by the time Skyrim takes place.

His god-powers were pretty well drained from the lack of access to Kagrenac's Tools in the years prior to Morrowind, and from having to maintain the Ghostfence all by himself. (Since Almalexia was too busy going nuts and Sotha Sil was busy being a Socially Awkward Recluse Penguin.) That's why he's in total seclusion by the time the Nerevarine gets to see him. He literally doesn't have the time or the energy to go out among the people or run the Temple anymore.

Assuming he was able to hang onto any power following the destruction of Lorkhan's Heart, I'm betting it wasn't much, if at all.

...Plus he seems pretty at peace with things if you go to talk to him after finishing the Morrowind and/or Tribunal MQs.
Spoiler
"It is all very sad. But death comes to all mortals -- and we are all mortal now. In time, death will come to me, Nerevarine -- perhaps even at your hands. It is futile to deny one's fate."

If Vivec returns, he should be voiced by John de Lancie.

Considering it's been over two hundred years since he was rendered mortal, he's probably not coming back.

Vivec just seems like a Mary Sue to me, except one that doesn't do anything useful. And the whole concept of CHIM just seems to be a big slap in the face to players interested in the lore.

Nirn > Earth
Any Day.
Actually since I really became interested in TES a few months ago it's only taught me to appreciate the real world more. Everything we take for granted, the bodies we have, the clouds in the sky, the leaves on the trees, are more beautiful to my eyes than ever before. I read other fiction on my own time now too, so I'm grateful for that.

Nonetheless, I can't ignore the fact that there are really two things which Nirn has that Earth simply doesn't.

The first is Magick, and usually when I get to thinking about that I actually come to the conclusion that Earth is better off without it. Magick is too chaotic, too destructive, and too dangerous. On more than one occasions its ripped holes in the (fictional) universe and instigated catastrophic events in history that everyone would've been better off not experiencing at all. Sure, Magick is convenient and intriguing, and I think if it existed I would have invested my life to its study, but I think the trade-offs are too severe to justify its existence.

So the only thing IMO that Nirn really has over Earth is the Hist.

I mean asdflkjh brrrrrrRRRRR THE. FRIGGIN. HIST. GRRR AAAAHHH

Seriously. That's what I really miss on Earth. The Hist and everything about them are so cool I really do wish they were real.

Yeah, I'm nuts, but who cares.

I always assumed that Vivec's powers drained very slowly over time. Despite being separated from the Heart for many years, Vivec maintained the Ghostgate largely without help from Almalexia and Sotha Sil. And while severely weakened by the time the Nerevarine meets him, he still had plenty of power (as evidenced by the continued existence of the Ghostgate itself). With the Sixth House destroyed again by the Nerevarine, Vivec would have had little need to maintain the Ghostgate and could conserve what little power he had left (which could still be considerable by mortal terms). I suspect that he could still live for many years with his remaining power.

Vivec may seem content at the end of Morrowind, but if you look at the Trial of Vivec (man, I hate to reference that asinine story), Vivec is anything but ready to fade into the sunset. He could have had second thoughts as he gets closer to death.

I personally believe Nirn will be a better place to live in than Earth.

As for Magic. That's a Good and Bad thing. Magic is very balanced, if you ask me. We have Destruction Magic which causes death and destruction but we also have magic like Restoration that save lives. If we had magic for real then we could do many great things, but at the same time, many destructive things. My opinion is Magic would be better to have, and use, than real weapons we are currently using, like bombs and guns.

And there is more things to look at but I think you should go ahead and bring them up, if you so wish.
