I voided my first warranty on a computer!

Post » Fri Dec 02, 2011 7:37 am

I have been part of this forum in spirit for quite some time, but only recently have I started posting and talking with others and I just wanted to say thank you for all of the help and tips you have given me to make an informed decision on my power supply, whether or not the graphics card was an upgrade or a downgrade, and your opinions on bacon (and it's pliability) on these forums.
In particular, I would like to thank these people for making it possible to say that my computer is custom:

Barretsfloyd, for supplying the graphics card (and saving my butt in the thread when i didnt know the model of card)

Tig 'Ol Bitties, For helping me make a good decision on what brand of PSU to buy.

Kai Hohiro, For supplying the information on the ATI-to-Nvidia card, which is better debate,

Old Andy, for his unbiased opinions about bacon,

YouTube for explaining to me the different types of connectors (couldnt tell a SATA from a Molex...)

And Jag1313, for showing us the missing link between Bacon and computer design.

Without any of you, this would not have been possible. Thank you.

I don't put much faith in warranties. You're better off with warranties on the individual components instead of the entire computer anyway. Any parts you purchased to upgrade your computer probably came with their own warranties.

The first thing I voided a warranty on was my Sansa Fuze when I downloaded a program called Rockbox.

Rockbox is awesome and there's a program for most of the popular MP3 players of the world, but it's REALLY risky to install, there's a very real risk of 'bricking' your MP3 player.

Your welcome.

I might suggest though that you keep ahold of your old video card in case anything happens to the one you have installed now. It's always a good policy to have a backup...Unless of course you've already gotten rid of it.
