Wait to be attacked?

Post » Thu Jun 07, 2012 3:49 am

This is not a spoiler as it can occur at any time in the game. But don't read on if you haven encountered a random fight. :geek:

Sven and I were walking down the road, enjoying my favorite pass time - killing deer.
It's all about the leather.

I met an ork and decided to talk with him/her. She/It called me a milk drinker, and I have had that before. you get 2 responses and either one seems to tick them off so I clocked him/her a few times with my sword.
Sven didn't help as he does in the past and just stepped away.
When I spoke to him he said Hello friend. "you should hear me play at the..."

I had to get him to follow me all over again. I figured it was a game glitch so we went on (without saving - bad boy Gary)
I came up to a guard walking up the road farther down that attacked me on sight. I killed him thinking he was a bandit till I went to rob him of his clothes. Then when we went to town the other guards acted the same way. (HUH?)

I started restoring saved games and moving my character to the nearest town. It was not until I saved before the ork incident that things were back to normal.

I guess you have to wait until they attack you first. I wasn't taking any chances. We came down the same road and saw the same ork. I used my Alt key and ran right past him.
Time for work anyway so I figured I'd ask here before I went on.

Always, always save just before an encounter. I usually do but I was running late this morning.

Any ideas what happened? Did I murder him by not waiting?

Yes, any time Your character attacks first it can be considered an assault, even hunting game can add to a characters assault statistic.
I hate having to go thru a dialogue where You know what will happen, and I did something similiar.
A follower like Sven or Faendal not acting as a follower is a clue your character has commited a crime, in case You were wondering why He needed to be recruited again.

Was he just named "Orc"?
There are a few of these - you basically have to wait for them to attack you first. They appear to exist just get annoyed and offer you out.

And it looks like Sven is a snitch as well as a Follower. And will combine the two activities to thwart you at any step possible.

Seems a good reason for an early grave for Sven, then.

I encountered an Ork named Ork earlier. He tried to sell me skooma. I said not to him then he started to raise his fist towards me and begin to run at me. 2 steps and he put them down and siad your not worth it. Weirdest encounter ever for me.

How is Sven as a follower? Lydia could be my follower since I'm a Thaine (spelled right?)
I had to increase his health because he kept dieing. Even the guy from the Companions was better.

And yes I liked that accent too. :) I hear it all the time in Philadelphia.

Yes, any time Your character attacks first it can be considered an assault, ...
Talking about assaults, I killed several draugr before they "woke up" (did you notice that they snore?): it was considered like assaults... I didn't understand why my assaults count was so high, so I ditched several hours of my game, until I noticed what were these assaults about. :stare:

No, it's "thane". ;)

I can't complain about Sven as a follower; my Dunmer mage and him make a good team.

Yup - but in fairness, they have not actually done anything to you at that point have they...?

I do this all the time. It's actually one of my favorite things to do in the game - killing the sleeping Draugr.

It makes me feel all

I do this all the time as well. "shh... you'll wake the sleeping Draugr." plus its a great way to lv sneak and weapon levels.

Have noticed this as well. You expect this sort of behaviour from the likes of Sven... but when even Mjoll the Lioness (despite her big talk about cleaning up Skyrim) simply stands about while you're the victim of an obvious shakedown, it's beyond annoying. What I would give for a follower/spouse with some initiative. You don't need the AI of Charles Bronson to see 'Orc' or whoever is bad news... and if that meant occasionally having to pay of the bounty/bail of an overzealous companion who struck first, so be it...

Heh.
We normally just snipe them from a distance. It has resulted in some "unfortunate" deaths but I figure it evens out in the end.
(Although we did learn a lesson in circumspection after having put 4 or 5 arrows into M'aiq before we realised who it was!)

Sorry I didn't mean how, but more like how is he? Meaning is he any better or worse then any of the others?
I have his health cranked up. Got tired of him dieing. (That's my only cheat I did)

They SNORE? ROFLMAO. I'll have to get close to one next time.

Sven is an awesome follower. I made him the same Dragon Armor I have. We look cool.
But I'm still using the great sword I got from the Skyforge. Looking for something better. I enchanted it with 20% damage to stamina, and also poison it when I remember.

Not all of them but some do. You may need to use headphones to hear it clearly. :)

Yes! Recently I was playing and waiting for a call, and I always use headphones, so I turned the music volume down and left the rest of the sliders up. After a while I started noticing the snoring from some of them. I also noticed that those Nord ruins are creepier without the music on.
