Wait...what?Dragons can attack walled cities?!(major edit)

Post » Thu Jun 21, 2012 6:53 pm

Ok, originally, I was going to make this thread about how I have never seen a dragon hit a major wall city(Riften isn't one) i.e, Markarth, Solitude, Windhelm and Whiterun, and how I thought it was garbage spread by fans.

But exactly 2 minutes ago, after fast travelling(what else) to Solitude, a dragon spawned near the Blue Palace. I literally fell of my seat in shock, never had a dragon attacked a major walled city, I composed myself enough to kill it with my unlimited Thunderbolt spell but wow, didn't see that coming.

Riften isn't a major walled city? When did that happen?

Riften is more of a River City if you know what I mean. It has walls at 3 sides but the 4th shows the outside. Its walls arent as big as others either.

I've never had Riften, Windhelm, or Markarth attacked, but absolutely Whiterun and Solitude.

I've had Riften attacked twice, Markarth once, and as of yesterday, Whiterun attacked once.

It is kind of crazy that with the hundreds of hours I've put into this game neither Solitude nor Windhelm has come under attack.

Only attack I've encountered was inside Whiterun.

I'd be thrilled to see them inside cities more often - provided most city NPC's are given a better AI package that has them take cover rather than trying to melee a dragon with their fists. I've seen dragons inside Whiterun, Riften, and Windhelm (during the battle for Windhelm, no less), although those appearances are quite rare.

I've had one attack Windhelm, but only one time and that's the only time I've seen one inside a walled city.

I've had them attack Riften and Windhelm before. I really want to fight one in Solitude, seems like an awesome place for a dragon battle. Wouldn't want to fight one in Markarth, seems like it would be a gigantic cluster-[censored] trying to fight one there.

Y'know, if I hadn't seen videos online of this happening on the Xbox/PS3 versions of Skyrim, and read accounts of it taking place on these forums and elsewhere - I would have written this off as a myth.

I have at least 550 hours into Skyrim across 3 characters, and I have never seen this. Not even once.

Makes me lean towards calling it a glitch. Either my personal copy of Skyrim is somehow loony and doesn't trigger it... Or the rest of you are arrayed against me in a grand cabal meant to drive me insane.

I would dread fighting a dragon in Markarth, the way the city is laid out would make it hell. The Solitude dragon wasen't that good since it just spent its time around the Blue Palace courtyard. At least thier rare in walled cities, unlike Dawnstar and Riverwood, dragon everytime you spawn ffs.

@Etatwo

I doubted it too bro, but its true, dragons attack walled cities. It took exactly 830 hrs and 31 mins across 3 playthroughs, but I saw it today. I still can't believe it.

It's not a glitch, as the programmers set up buildings for the dragons to perch on in the cities, it's obviously intentional.

Whiterun and Riften. My 1st character, she fast traveled alot. I haven't had one hit inside a walled city since December, 1000 plus hrs later. Now I think I would have had one spawn inside Solitude if I hadn't had a sneezeing fit when my character was right outside the wall's. I usually wait outside the gate now, for a bit, don't want to loose my vendors!!!!

Edit: I don't fast travel anylonger.... haveing a Dragon spawn every time I entered the College taught me a lesson.

I don't see how it could be a glitch.

Meant more of a glitch on my end. That being said, though - I was intending for that to be sardonic. I suppose I failed.

I've never had a dragon spawn inside a walled city, but that's because if I do fast travel to a city, I fast travel to the stables, not to the gate. Kinda glad after reading this that I do, too. One thing I hate is a game's finite number of NPCs dwindling away.

Just fast travel close by the city and kill the dragon then walk to the city...

People amaze me sometimes (including myself). Going full blown instead of just thinking it through for a sec.

Solitude's been attacked thrice in all of my games, and it's the only walled city that's been attacked on my game. Weird.

Solitude was attacked thrice on one of my characters in relatively close succession and in that game the only other city ever attacked was Whiterun once. :o

Same here, i play on PS3, Xbox and PC. And it has never happened that a dragon has spawned inside a walled city.

However Winterhold and Riverwood must be cursed with dragon spawns.

Edit: And when a city does fall under an attack, why oh why can't Bethsda fix the script on them so they run for their lives instead of attacking the dragon. I've gotten lots of quests that's been broken this way. :yuck:

On my 2nd character I get a lot of attacks in those two - lost the blacksmith and his wife in Riverwood.
