So I read the Waking Dreams Black book and now I am stuck. The is not active Waking Dreams quest, I just went ahead and read the book.

I reached the part of Apocrypha with the Word Wall for the last word of Dragon Aspect, and now I am just stuck with the door behind me locked and no obvious path forward.

Did I read the book too early in the quest line? I have not yet met Neloth in the Path to Knowledge quest, so I still have a ways to go in the MQ, but I am bit sure how to complete the level and get back to Solstheim.

Was I supposed to do more of the MQ before reading this book?

It does, but you have to beat Miraak in order to get the ability.
