Wall of flamesfroststorms question

Post » Thu Jun 07, 2012 3:24 am

I am almost finished deciding on my build after some experimenting. I have decided my main form of combat will be dual wielding daggers/swords with highly offensive based enchantments.

I will also invest perks in alchemy or restoration, smithing, and light armor. As a Breton, I'll also dabble in magic. I like the look of destruction and thought how I might apply it. I am thinking I will set up a ring using one of the aforementioned wall spells and take on enemies as they pass through. My question is this, how effective are those spells with all the perks into fire (for example)?

I've read somewhere that the perks 'Augmented frost/fire/Lightning do not affect the wall spells, although I'm not sure how true this is.
And dual casting supposedly increases damage of these spells, not duration. Again, I'm unsure how true this is.

You could check the UESP wiki.

EDIT: Perks that increase fire/frost/lightning damage do not affect these spells. So if you only wish to use the 'Wall' spells, I'd save your perks :)

well dang ... lol. I thought it just didn't effect the runes. I may still get the lightning ones for the kamehameha blast lol.

EDIT

found this on the uesp ...

All Rune and Cloak spells are unaffected by Augmented Flame/Frost/Lightning perks.

doesn't say walls...

With dual wielding and light armor, your character will be more durable and deal more damage than any mage. Sneak attacks, plus fully enchanted gear will make your character more than good enough. Play the game with your other skills and see if you agree.

I played on Master with two mages and one light armor, dual wield, sneak attack archer. The last one was the best.

I was going to use it more for role play ... I just wanted to make sure they wouldn't be a complete waste

The wiki says it does not effect them, but I didn't see it on the uesp. However, I'm sure there's a strong possibility it doesn't effect the walls :(

My last character was a Paladin that focused on

Destruction
One Handed
Restoration
Heavy Armor
Shield
Enchant
Smithing

He has the master perk for destruction and regularly uses storm wall and storm cloak when it looks like hes going to be surrounded. When more than two enemies are getting close I put up storm cloak and then cast storm wall in a circle around myself. Then while people are around me I use my shield and mace to block incomming hits, shield bash and counter attack all while the two lighting spells whittle away at their health rapidly. Since the walls don't actually stop people from moving though them and to very little damage unless you stand on them I don't see any other effective way to use them. I personally believe they are more for a spell sword type than a pure mage as a pure mage would get killed pretty fast if he tried to pull that off due to lack of armor.

so it seems like at least a viable tactic. I'm trying to make my character very speed oriented and thought this may at least drain a bit of damage while I work my way through a horde
