I wanna be a Vampire but......

Post » Mon Jun 04, 2012 9:09 am

In Oblivion IV I was a vampire and having to avoid the sun if you hadn't fed and sometimes having to wait around for the sun to go down, if there wasen't a bed, and only being allowed to feed on the sleeping, got to be a real drag. Now in Skyrim V I see that we have a wait feature, {No more trying to find a bed} but you can still only feed on people sleeping ?? The werewolf can feed on the living, so why can't the vampires ? I would love to be able to take out an enemy by feeding. Here's hopin Bethesda gives vampires equal billing in an add-on !! Because I'd really rather be a VAMPIRE !!

To be honest, Vampires look like they were shoehorned into the game straight from Oblivion.

Uhm, there was the same wait feature in Oblivion and Morrowind, my memory is more fuzzy but I'm pretty sure Daggerfall had it too. But yes still only feeding on sleeping people.

The werewolf can feed on the living, so why can't the vampires ?

Actually, werewolves can only feed on fresh corpses so that's not actually the living. And sleeping targets are alive so vampires are actually the ones that can feed on the living. Contrary to your interpretation.

However despite picking your post apart I agree with your sentiments... Vampires should be cooler and should be able to feed from targets mid battle.

The wait feature has existed as far back as Daggerfall. Possibly farther.

Being a vampire /is/ a feature that is tacked on. Nothing happens when you are one aside from having to feed every so often. No cool unique powers, no new questlines, very little reaction from the world beyond throwaway dialogue, unless you let yourself progress to stage four. The fact that there is a werewolf guild but no vampire guild is very disappointing. Basically being a vampire is just so you can say, hey, I am a vampire. Which granted I love being able to say that but it rings hollow when there is nothing else to do for it.

Well being a Vampire is very situational. You need the build for it.

Yeah, vampires have been pretty well nerfed in Skyrim. Though they are the only ones with access to an Absorb Health spell (not the enchantment), it's weak, and it's a massive mana drain. There are perks for being an underfed vampire, but then you have no way of interacting with the citizens of Skyrim without being shunned or attacked. It ought to be the other way around: you should get perks for remaining well-fed, instead of depriving yourself of humanoid blood. It would be fun to see a connection between vampires and a guild, but I can't see that being decent without be shoehorned in. It would be fun to have a secret cabal of relatively benign vampires within the College of Winterhold, instead of vampires being affiliated by default to the thieves and assassins.

Another fun idea would be to have the vampires struggling to create a connection between them and Molag Bal, the original creator of the first vampires. That could be a fun questline, or even a potential guild to join, although it would be yet another sneaky thief/killer guild. Vampires unfortunately do not hold a candle to the awesomeness of the werewolves, and it's a shame, because it used to be fun to roleplay a vampire. Now it's more like a chore. :(

Do other vampires still attack you, if you are one?

EDIT: Thanks Levanon... That's lame, though.

I was kind of dissapointed in the vampires in Skyrim. Really no incentive to chose that route, especially when compared to being a Werewolf.

I actually think that the Vampires were done the wrong way round. They should should be stronger if they feed often, so when you feed you go to stage three and if you dont feed within 48 hours then you go down to stage two and after another 48 hours you go down to stage one in terms of strength. Meaning you get weaker the longer you go without feeding. To remain strong you have to feed more often, on almost a daily basis. Your resistance to sunlight should be like in Oblivion and Morrowind, but again opposite, in stage three (where you are strongest) you can fully resist the sun. In stage one (where you are weakest) you are most vunerable to the sun. Your facial features again should be set so in stage three you look almost like you are not a vampire whilst in stage one you look deathly and most like a vampire. This way you are rewarded for constantly feeding, which makes more sense than the current system as a vampire should not be weakened for feeding.

I also think there should be a leveling system for vampires, meaning they have their own perk tree and so on. This would most likely involve having perks like damage resistance increase by X% and so on. I also think the Werewolves should have a perk tree and leveling system as well so they can improve their character but thats a discussion for another topic.

Finally they should have more quests. I loved the idea of the family of Vampires that you could be sired into. I'm confounded why it was taken out of Oblivion and why it didnt return to Skyrim. Having a bigger Vampire questline would be amazing and it would give me more of a reason to become a Vampire.

They don't even recognize that you are one of them in their dialog, except for alva.

Agreed with all.
And It does seem a bit strange that the more you feed, the weaker you get, in a sense.

Nah, because when you're full, you're closer to life than to death.

I'll just add this edit: I like the way vampires are done in this game because it's not what pop-culture has done to vampires. It is it's own unique thing. They're supposed to be undead and when you're not full you are not full of nutrients that you need to live so you're closer to being dead which for a vampire in TES that means you're stronger because you're closer to being fully undead.

One cliche I would like to see brought in is Diablerie. Basically that means if you are a vampire and kill other vampires by feeding on them, you become stronger as you consume their power.

You should be able to morph into a bat and fly around. And have a black cape. And have your own castle. And a coffin.
