i want to be a jarl

why in skyrim can you become leader of every guild but cant be a jarl.

i think that once you complete the civil war you should get the offer to become the jarl of any city apart from solitude or windhelm.

would be a cool ending like in the end of fallout where it says what happens it could say you were the new jarl

It'd be lackluster since dialog never gets updated in this game you'd still get treated like a dike by every guard and peasant in your city. I'd rather not be told "No lollygaggin'" by my own employees.

I agree with this. I'd probably kill him in a murderous rage.

Considering becoming a guild leader immediately makes you the least important member in the organization (no more quests except for the occasional radiant quests, cant order members around, have no managing choices or decisions at all.) The only thing I could see as a benefit of being a jarl in syrim is getting a castle.

"Congratulations Dragonborne. You're now the leader of the thieves guild! Luckily for you the entire guild is self sufficient, this guy over here takes care of all the management, everyone else knows what they are supposed to do at all time, and nobody will take any orders from you. Cheers!"

Its basically always been this way in ES games, but this is one area that I was really hoping for some improvement on that Skyrim disappointed me in.

Maybe become the Jarl's advisor and take place over the other steward and he could give you quests to help the city and kill like bandits who are terrorizing people in the hold?
You could get your own room inside the castle and have authority over some things but nothing too important?

You should be able to help with building a new city/village like in bloodmoon
but then be jarl of that new city.

That's what I found disappointing about the ending. Big hero, saved all of Skyrim, but nobody recognises it. :( They still treat me like a twit.

Oblivion had a cut questline where you could rebuild Kvatch and become it's ruler, and mods re-created that that later. So... Helgen Rebuilt mod, anyone? :hehe:

Still, the DLCs aren't out yet, and Champion of Cyrodiil did end up as a Daedric Prince in one of them ;)

As I've pointed out in other threads I'd like to build my own dragon themed fortress, city and army for the PC version.

If I were more talented and more familiar with the Creation Kit, the one thing I'd do is make a mod where the Dragonborn rebuilds Helgen, and becomes the ruler thereof. Of course, I'd also try to expand that into a third faction in the Civil War, and do my best to make the Dragonborn the High King. It would have to be epic, lengthy, difficult and deadly. Everyone would be an enemy, unless you could convince various Jarls to side with you (good luck), get guilds on your side, etc.

Daunting task, just rebuilding Helgen

The rest is, I'm afraid, a pipe dream.

I actually have more interest in being a salesman, but not the traveling kind. I want to set up my own shop, train an apprentice who will man it when I'm gone and sell whatever I want. That and a Tavern owner.

Not sure I'd get a mod for that, but an official DLC for it would be worth paying for IMNSHO.

I like the way you think. I was a little bummed that there wasn't an option to be selected as emperor in a moot.
