Wanted: Mutant Tarantula

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 3:55 am

I'm a tad suprised we haven't seen this yet. I dont know if they'd hold of on not revealing a creature but a mutant tarantula seems extremely possible.
- They're pleantiful in the southwest (I don't know if they are int he mojave specifically but I'd bet money they are)
- Cazador is included, which if my discovery channel education serves me right, is a type of wasp that hunts tarantulas
- It's a freaky, awesome insect that would be down right sick to kill.

Yes! I too am surprised that we haven't seen any mutated spiders in the Fallout series. Also, don't forget about the Western Diamondback Rattlers and Sidewinders too! Giant, mutated spiders and snakes would RULE! LOL!

Considering that Cazadors are the equivalent of Bloatflies in Fallout 3, I doubt mutant spiders would be much of a challenge.
Tarantula < Cazador < Pretty much everything else. Radscorpions should be just fine.

They are?
I thought Josh said that their poison will be really dangerous, and from a screenshot I could see them hunting in packs.
Some of them are also really really big.
So, equal to bloatflies? Not as far as I recall.

Snakes and spiders would be awesome to see in the game. Maybe the reptile-dogs are filling in for the missing snakes? Getting ambushed by some Shelob beastly would make me second guess my dungeon delving habits, too.

If anything the Cazadors are like the giant wasps in FO Tactics then Bloatflies.

They're supposed to be more dangerous than bloatflies. Pretty sure they're poisonous.

Well, since Cazadores are actually mutant tarantula hawk wasps, if they did have Radrantulas then they would probably get their butts kicked by the Cazadores all day.

Read: Tarantula Hawk = Wasps that sting, kill, and eat tarantulas.

Thanks for the wiki link. After reading up on the wasp, I'd have to say a previous poster was wrong saying these are like the bloatflies. With a top 3 rated sting for pain, the wasp is aready a foe you dont want to meet and piss off. And the wasp is only 2". Tack on 200+ years of radiation and mutation, you have a pretty vicious bug that could drop a Brahmin. If the new wasp is around say 14", its stinger would nearly be 2 1/2" and would no doubt put out more venom.

Kill it easy? Probably. Bugs and shotguns rarely get along. Have 2-3 sneak up on you while your wandering at lower levels? You may be in a bit of trouble, and religious experience levels of pain.

Hopefully not. I'm extremely arachnophobic and a tad entomophobic. Fire ants and rad scorpions are all I can take :/

Cazadores lay eggs in tarantulas, if I'm not mistaken... So there ought to be, unless you're going around killing 200 year old wasps...

Ditto man. Terrified of them. I hated those Spider Daedra in Oblivion. I'd be quit pleased to never run into one in NV.

Tarantulas could be worthy opponents... could have powerful poisen that can slow your movement or something... Although if the engine was better I would suggest giving them the ability to walk up and on walls =/ (this would pobably cause more glitches though)

For the pure cheese of it there should be a side quest where you have to kill a massive queen of an annoying brood of Radrantulas.
Her name?
Shelob.

BTW did anyone else LOVE the Roach King in FO3?

When I hit that easter egg I nerdgasmed.

That's a great idea, I love the giant mutant bugs! I can't get over how cool giant rad scorpions are no matter how many times I see them.

I've often thought about spiders in Fallout 3, not specifically tarantulas but they're the perfect choice. They'd be well suited to the desert wastes, about the same size as a giant scorpion or maybe a touch bigger. And there could be other varieties of spiders, smaller ones, lurking in ruins.

I'd also like to see giant rats. Not mole rats, actual rats. If there are two types of monsters I think any fantasy or sci fi game should have it's giant spiders and giant rats.

Not necessarily. When they mutated they likely changed the way they breed. For example, the bloatflies mutated their ability to shoot stinger-tipped larvae at their prey, giving them access to a meal and leaving the rest for their spawn.

The cazador probably adapted by laying their eggs in larger creatures. I wouldn't be surprised to learn that these mothers actually prey on radscorpions.

It'd be cool, but then they'd have to make completely new models and animations which would take a looong time.. :(

Roach King was awesome. I remember when my brother found him, he called me into his room and asked, "What the **** is this?".

ever since playing fo3 i always thought it would be greaightly improved by other mutated animals and insectia/plants they had radscorpions suposedly origanateing from pet stores if thats acurate why arnt there other acracnids like spiders which are commen in pet stores in britton unknown how popular they are in america but i would have thought atlest would be some along with snakes and terapins /i was always disaponted with how small the ant nests were 1 queen and 20 / 30 workers / soldger ants excludeing graydich but commen red ants have a nest of over 20,000 ants and multaple queens-(many ant communitys have multaple queens) but given there enlaged state a 200 ant nest would be acurate hopefully it will be better in fnv

My scariest spider related incident was seeing one crawling out of the bin in my loo then about 5 minutes later finding it sitting patiently by my bed. Godamn if I was American I would have (no offence intended) shot it too pieces. And remember that this one cant hurt a human, as far as I know, which reminds me does anyone know if the only dangerous things British have is adders, bees and wasps, or is there more

More on topic I would love to see some spiders, maybe even some webs to get stuck in, imagine getting stuck in an old mineshaft while you are surrounded by skeletons, and you know some spider is there somewhere...

Also I would like some water based enemies that can only swim think http://irnewmedia.files.wordpress.com/2010/02/fishing-for-megalodon.gif
