Warlord D&D Class Built Help

Post » Tue Jun 12, 2012 5:39 pm

Okay, recently I looked into a class in D&D called Warlord. It is a leadertype class, meant for buffing and to some degree heal allies and oneself. In addition to being a "support" character it is designed to fight on the front line alongside its allies. I really liked the concept of the class and want to make a Skyrim character with it.

I have decided to use a Nord for my race, but I am more unsure about the skills.
The ones I have so far is:
2-handed
Restoration
Heavy Armor(only going to use the lower to middle tiers)

Anyone have some suggestions to the build? And if you know more about the class that would also help, I could only find the most basic information on it.

Perhaps illusion a few buffing spells in there?

Probably not an optimum build but this might be an interesting one:

Was thinking of trying it out myself.

Wouldn't you for sure want quick reflexes here?

Also- those illusion spells have to be scaled if you are planning on fear/frenzy/calm. You cannot just use the spell cost reduction perks, because things will level out of the spell range without the perks.

Now I have a prototype build, though more suggestions are always welcome.

Was looking at it for the buffing perspective. All about making your allies stronger which I don't think is affected by level.

It's easy enough to drop the speech to increase things like the quick reflexes.

I had it on my main and felt it could be skipped but that's a personal thing.

Thinking about it most of the left branch of speech could be skipped. It's mostly a flavor thing.

Been awhile since I had my d&d books out ofc. It's just how I see the character from my memory.

looks interesting for a more RP build. I would suggest double cast in illusion, just 1 more perk brings alot more lifetime into the control spells, and you are a 2-handed weapon user anyways.

Yeah, it is an RP character.

I might take the Illusion Dual Cast perks, but that would be when I cannot take another from my prefered list.

Edit:
Further tweaks, reducing the perks down to "essensials".

That's a brilliant build. I disagree with Speech, but I'd like to try the rest of this myself!

OP, this is a real winner right here. I don't understand why the build you suggested didn't have Sweep or other important perks (Sweep stood out because that's pretty much a must-have for Two Handed users).

Mainly because the Warlord is not a combat master, so I dropped the special power attack perks from my build. It is, however, a frontline fighter so I put down the basic ones.

Fighting dragons and mages could be tricky given your lack of ranged attacks.

Also why speech? What's the RP angle?

RP angle for speech is that the Warlord is a leader, on the battlefield and off. Speech seems to fit.

I have played all-melee characters before and it is not hard to manage dragons without ranged attacks. You just need to position yourself more strategicly when they are off the ground. Mages can be mroe tricky, but I'll find a way to manage those too.

Edit:

Further tweaked the build. I will be going for the Call to Arms spell as my main buff and the Harmy as my main Crowd Control so I need the Master Perk.

Suggestions to more perks are welcome.

I am not familiar with that class from D&D must have been one of those optional classes printed in Dragon magazine like 'Anti-Paladins'.

I would also say that Illusion sounds like it would fit but it somewhat more difficult to utilize as it requires a lot of perks to get your spells to work on higher level opponents. Unless you only used it for Courage and Rally then you could get by with one or two and probably even no perks as those spells don't cost much, but then it wouldn't feel like part of the class.

Oh, just read the rest of the posts.. I agree with Speech bening used somewhat as it sounds like it fits though Speech is not particulary well done in the game.

To be honest, you are right about speech being not the greatest. Like the op said it's a flavor thing. The 13 points could be pumped into archery as is my habit for better viability or maybe destruction if you're thinking some kind of battle mage.

This might be a cool one to play though.

Have started the character. It is fun so far, fear is very useful at the moment.

Thought about doing a similar build, but no Illusion and more Turn Undead, like a two-handed Paladin with a sword named Holy Avenger

The Warlord class came out with 4th edition d&d a version I was not too fond of as it just turned d&d into a poor MMO clone with everyone playing a template.

It's nearly the same as my planned character :) But mine uses Alteration also. It's "the" support magic school by excellency.
