Warrior Suggestions please?

Post » Fri Jun 08, 2012 9:21 pm

Well, I had 8 characters and decided to delete all the one I didn't play. Which left me with 2 characters of my own, and my girlfriend's character.

I now have only a Level 37 Imperial Spellsword and level 31 Bosmer Archer.

One character I deleted was my first character, a Nord Warrior and I'm looking to create another Nord to replace him. But I'd like you guys to suggest some different play styles for warrior characters.

What is the most fun way to play a warrior? Thanks guys. :)

My current character is a sort of stealthy warrior. She uses a two-hander and wears light armor. She sneaks around a fair amount and supports herself with archery as needed. It can be a bit of a challenge at times, though, because she doesn't have as much defense. But that's partly why she sneaks as much as she does.

For a fighter, I like playing in heavy armor with a two handed sword. That allows my attacks to be pretty quick and gives me the defense I need. Other than that, I just bash my way through every cave and ruin that I come across.

Light Armour is defintely more advantageous in Skyrim. At high level, the armour rating can be just as good, and there are stamina bonuses as well as less stamina penalty meaning ability to use more power attacks in combat.

Styles for warriors: hit things with weapons; hit things with 2 weapons; hit things with big weapons.

I'm doing a very similar thing with my latest. He's supposed to be a "Conan." Conan started out as a thief and could be pretty sneaky, so I'm doing that a lot. As he becomes stronger, I'll sneak less; he'll become more of a straight-ahead warrior. Right now, I use arrows to take out maybe one guy, then wait in a dark corner for the next one who comes to investigate and assasinate him (dual wielding axe and dagger). Then it's greatsword time for any survivors. Or warhammer. He likes variety. Sometimes, out in the open, he'll boldly stride up and give challenge. It's sort of every warrior style rolled together, but it feels right for him. No shield, no magic except shouts, light armor. To avoid overpowering: no smithing (or only improving, which doesn't raise the skill too much) no enchanting, and being very sparing with archery and sneak perks. Might only use steel weapons throughout the game, haven't decided. He's also a Breton, so he didn't start out with any weapon bonuses. I compensate by hitting more things with weapons.

Speaking from a smith point of view, your decision on armor is imperative.

Barbarian style...loincloth, boots and battle axe; or ragged pants if your feelin self conscious :P

It's a good challenge this way, especially if you play pure with no magic and potions...only meat and mead for a real barbarian warrior

My newest character is a Nord warrior. He wears heavy armor and used 2-handed weapons. I only play on adept, but so far he has been way more effective than my pure mage or my archer.

I pretty much just run in and bash away until everything is dead. I also only play him in 3rd-person. It's pretty awesome watching this giant Nord run around in an iron helmet, bashing heads in with a warhammer. Way more fun than 1st-person, for me anyway.

Should use a shield too. Ancient Celt style: sword, shield and what nature gave you. Anybody do a "woad" mod for PC?

There's only one thing you have to remember as a warrior:

What is best in life? To crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentation of their women.

That, and save often.

The Block skill is awesome. I love it. You learn the rhythm of battle with the Block skill.

I'm having a great time with my Nord warrior.
She uses one handed, blocking, light armor, smithing and some archery.
She tends to mostly rely on her shield and war axe.
Don't under estimate the power of the shield, with shield bash and the elemental perks you can really role.
The wind walker perk(makes your stamina regenerate 50% faster),is absolutely awesome for a shield master.
Make armor and weapons with the materials you find, buying only the materials you need to complete an armor type, this raises smithing more than fast enough.
And lastley archery,I use it spareingly.I try to hit one target then switch to mellee and get mobile.Another advantage of light armor, then push an attack.

I've done that with another light armor warrior. I quite enjoyed it.

I've never done squat with light armor, really. Played another Nord Warrior in Oblivion (named Thor, no less!) and wore heavy armor. Played a high elven mage next, no armor. Did toy around with Knights of the Nine quest and use the light armor there, but that was only that one quest. Rest of the time was summoning stuff to tank while I fireballed the bad guys.

Current character is a Nord Warrior, heavy armor again. Next character I'm planning will be largely different, but will still use heavy armor. I suppose after that I either need to do a total stealth character, or maybe something that uses light armor. Never have used that tree yet.

My favorite set of armor in the entire game is the scaled armor. So I just smith the heck out of it to make it viable at all levels. With the crafting skills in Skyrim, your armor choice is mostly cosmetic.

Well, we've admittedly got an embarrassment of riches with the armor and weapons in this game. Even though I'd like to see more added, there's a lot of styles and I can honestly say I like every one that I've seen, both heavy and light.

Nord 2H warrior here. Level 32 at the mo, wielding the Nord Hero Greatsword and wearing Savior's Hide Armor. Easily my favourite character I've done so far, destroys everything with minimum effort. Love the look and power of this build.

Sword and shield may sound boring, but it's actually a lot of fun. Try to time your blocks and bashes against the enemies' strikes rather than holding up the shield constantly. I'm not sure how to describe it properly, but it feels more like you're locked in combat and engaged in a deadly duel instead of just tanking blows and whaling on them with two swords until death. If they have a shield, it gets even better. You then have to outthink and outmaneuver the other while keeping your own hide safe. No two fights are ever the same. Don't use any health potions or spells until the fighting has stopped. This adds to the intensity and punishes every mistimed block. In the end, victory is so much sweeter, even if you only have a sliver of health left (which means you either faced a worthy opponent or did very poorly). Also, try not to use enchanted weapons except against the undead. I also recommend Spellbreaker shield to deal with mages and dragons.

As for armor, I suggest http://i.imgur.com/rKiaN.jpg. In my opinion, it's the best looking "realistic" warrior armor.

Overall I'd say block is great for melee warriors, and while I keep thinking in the future I'd like to play another warrior that uses a two-handed weapon and perhaps an Orc that dual-wields (dual-wield + Berserk sounds like it could turn you into a tornado of pointy steel) I also think block + one-handed is probably both the most powerful and most fun method of melee. I expect a shield is what might make light armor viable for a melee warrior, while with a two-handed weapon you block poorly and with dual-wielding you can't block at all.

Block and one handed is the way to go. I usually don't like the warrior type in these kinds of games but my Redguard warrior is a blast to play.

(dual-wield + Berserk sounds like it could turn you into a tornado of pointy steel)

Dual-wield + Berserk + Elemental Fury = multiple-vortex F5 tornado of whirling death.
