Waterbreathing?

Post » Tue Jun 12, 2012 12:14 pm

So, you can't cast spells underwater, and the Alteration spell "Waterbreathing" only lasts 60 seconds? An asthmatic with emphysema can hold his breath for 60 seconds. Did I just buy the Brooklyn Bridge when I bought this spells, because it sure seems like Tolfdir just ran a con on me.

I am going to assume that you are going to facepalm when you realize the name of the spell is not the holding your breath under water spell but the one that allows you to ya know breathe under water without having to come up for air for one minute.

Pretty much. Five minutes, at least, would have been about right. Heck, my hunter found a pair of boots that lets her breathe underwater forever. She just puts them on when she goes swimming.

I just want my Water Walking Back :|

OT : Well, don't forget it still adds the time you actually Can breath underwater before you start drowning.
but I did find it a little tedious that I couldn't cast it while in the water o.o

Ok, but why would one even care about such a spell, when just holding your breathe would last longer (IRL)? Particularly when you can't cast it underwater to refresh the effect when you're way down in the ocean diving wrecks. It does seem rather short.

So it extends you trip underwater by...1 minute? And that's useful? How? Anything you have to do underwater is only going to take 2-3 minutes, whether you have the spell or not. It's pointless.

And it's Adept level? Because being able to exist underwater for 1 minute would be too powerful for a Novice? What?

You would be angrier if it were an expert or Master level spell and lasted for only one minute like that.

There are many CE Waterbreathing items in the game, one of them is Legendary. Use the spell, limited as it is, until you find one of these. It;s not like anywhere you have to swim underwater in this game takes more than 30 seconds.

I found a Steet-Plate Helmet of Waterbreathing, which is very nice (as it's an enchantment, I can breath underwater forEVAR AND EVAR!). But the spell is a bit useless, I suppose.

Me too. I loved finding Water Walking boots in Oblivion, then strollin' around Lake Rumare, giving all the mubcrabs I pass a giant middle-finger. :(

Dual cast Alteration spells last longer than single cast Alteration spells.

I found a amulet/necklace that has underwater breathing on it, but can't remember where. First time I've seen it, and I'm playing 5 characters.

I do a lot of dungeon crawling, so likely in one of them.

I remember the Finn Gleam from Oblivion...Glass helmet with permanent night-eye effect and waterbreathing.

Dang I miss night-eye.

Dang I miss really useful spells.

Dang dang.

Argonians can breathe underwater

Yeah was about to say. If you really want to breathe underwater at all times. Here lizard lizard lizard! :D

You can also find Armor pieces with enchants for non-stop Waterbreathing, same as Argonians. Some helms I've seen don't make sense. I've once found a Scaled Helmet of Waterbreathing.. like wait how? There's no closing for the face.. how can you use that to breathe underwater? Gonna breathe through the top of your head? LMAO.

Helmets like Ebony/Imperial Legion Helmet/Dwarven, etc. make to be more reasonable lol.

My point was...the spell is useless. It was a pointless waste of time. Tons of enchanted items in the game let you breath underwater, and you don't need the "waterbreathing" spell to enchant it. There is nothing underwater in the game that takes longer than 1 minute to do anyway. It is completely useless to have a spell for water breathing :)

And I'm not angry. I think it's funny :) They spent time making a useless spell....even the effect is useless...instead of, hell, doing ANYTHING else :)

I've found the Spell useful at some times, mainly because I have had no luck finding any Water Breathing enchantments ever >:|
I would certainly not ask for it to not exist in the First place, i'm already mad they got rid of like 60% of the Spell effects.
and Dual Casting it makes it much more useful.

Why do you even need waterbreathing?

There are some places like the shipwreck in the trench out in the ocean that require you to be underwater for a good deal of time. That one is so far down it would be difficult to really explore even with the spell. That's why I like having something enchanted with waterbreathing. It's not so much that you necessarily need it but that it's more convenient to go underwater and not have to think about when you need to surface. Water breathing is also very useful if you are into alchemy and want to swim around in one of the larger lakes collecting fish. It's nice not to have to worry about going up and down to get air. Again it's more about convenience than necessity.

even Harry Potter could stay under water longer than that in like his second year

Well, that may be a bit of an exaggeration. It is one thing to hold your breath when you are sitting comfortably in your chair. It is quite another to do it under water in stressful circumstances. In real life, even for a reasonably fit person, it is pretty hard to hold your breath under water for more than 10 or 20 seconds if you are doing anything that is exerting like swimming in armor, carrying a bunch of weapons and a pack full of gear while trying to avoid slaughterfish that for some weird reason you cannot strike at with your dagger. But, yeah, it is pretty funny that we have to wait until we are Adept at Alteration to get what seems like a rather petty spell.
