Way Out West

Hey I am curious, are they going to make new areas to visit on the western side of the map in any of the DLC? I looked around and didnt see much mention of the western front. Anyhoo, thanks and have a wonderful evening.

I also hope the big empty west side of the map gets filled with new locations.

Nice, ok. Seems sort of obvious to me since there are quite a few references to 'back west' n such already. I guess we could even toss a few town names out there, although none come to mind right now but I do recall there were towns name-dropped from characters around Vegas.

You DO realize California was in Fallout 1 and 2?

I think the OP knows that. New Vegas Map has that big empty Western Half. Scale everything up to real scale that big empty would be South East Califonia.

Exactly..yeah, it would be mostly NCR territory on that side, I'd guess. And then you have to the west of Nellis, east of the colorado and even to the far south there's areas that are big enough for something interesting.

The big reason I ask this is because I'm thinking about adding some buildings to one of these areas, and I dont want it to eventually be incompatible with something Obsidian makes. I guess it's a crap shoot at this point, if you guys havent heard nuthin.

Nipton is right on the boarder between the states. Sadly that big empty is empty because it's a desert. Death Valley National Park would make up most of that empty space and Mojave National park to the south. There are some small towns. Edit: there is alot of nothing before Death Valley National Park.

Does not mean something can't be there. Military bases and mines.

Go back courier 6, the blocked of passage with some highly obvious clues and a fast travel way point should tell you that somethings planned for that area.

Or at least was, if I were you I would get rid of the map boundries and extend just below Nipton area as that seems safe to do so.
Or past Nellis as there is nothing there, or the area of the big one bomb.

I found a place the other day called the "Northern Passage" and the rock wall is obviously something that could be easilly removed or a cave/tunnel entrance placed there. However, there is no other reason for this map marker to exist as there is absolutley nothing else there or really near there.

If you look on the map there are huge wide open areas behind the mojave outpost, canyon wreckage, and the road that goes all the way north

these are the places i'm asuuming the DLC will take place

two more i'm not sure about are under the fort and to the northeast of nellis

That area that is unused on the map?
I hope that if they do open it up it's lvl 35 to lvl 40 enemies only.

And the Abandoned BoS Bunker, which looks like it'll be tied in with Dead Money. That could be the reason it got locked in the first patch- because it was never meant to be open in the first place.

the gate at the end of the road going to the Mojave outpost
is locked, and says it needs a key. wouldn't surprise me if this led to a DLC area as it's a highway(15, I think).

One thing to remember, in the past game, the DLCs actually took place off the main map. Although there was an entrance map marker on the main map, the map was not otherwise changed.

So, I would not be surprised if the current map is barely altered or used at all for any upcoming DLCs.

Off map DLC is ok but the flaw is Why can't I just walk there? yeah it would take a very long time but in FO3 I was the Lone Wanderer "Its what I do :disguise: " I am not saying don't have them but there is so much of the map not being used. Not used because its a desert yes but by 2077 there could be mines out there, military bases, bunkers, Vaults (not that New Vegas needs anymore). If I was going to build something secret to survive a nuclear war or to at least give it a chance I would build it in the ass end of nowhere like Death Valley.

Still the allure of Fallout is seeing real world locations in the Fallout Universe.

It will be interesting as the DC map was quite filled to the edges, so it maybe there is more on map content for the DLCs coming up for New Vegas. BOS at least was half on the main map.

It all depends on the locations that they choose. I know modders would rather create a new land mass to have the least impact with existing content.

Because its a separate worldmap, you CANNOT walk there because in order for that to happen they would have to remake the current worldmap with the DLC areas, that is asking for trouble. That is why NO DLC made you walk there ... except Bloodmoon that used existing cells in Morrowind (that were water).

There must be a transition from worldmap to worldmap, that cannot be done without a door or a NPC to fire up the transition script ... that is why you cannot "just walk there". And before anyone points out they could update the worldmap ... what happen when we have TWO DLC and each with diferent separate maps? Start to see the problem when someone have Y but not X DLC?

I found a way round the Mojave Outpost and there's an enormous but feature-less landscape. Once you get to the far mountains and look over the map ends in a straight line running to a corner and what looks like lapping water, get to the water and it's actually far below a cliff. Here's a couple of views, first a 360 panorama taken about half way across, the outpost is below the red dots and the second image is looking back from by the pointy mountains in the middle of the pan.

It's so vast it could accommodate several expansion pack.

Next I'm off to explore the south. I may be sometime.

(Why do my images only show up as links and BB code?)

I know why we can't due to programming. I am just saying why have locations so far away from vegas that would need a new world map whne there is so much of New Vegas world map not used?. Why not put the DLC some where on the world map? Maybe not for all of them (what ever that number will be) but at least for one or two of them.

From what I've seen it'll be beyond the Mojave Outpost, there's plenty of landscape elsewhere but it get progressively more sketchy as you move round the map anti-clockwise. The south looks OK for the most part but there are a lot of "hollow" rocks and the east looks really bad in places.

There is another possible reason for the huge empty lands. They may just be there so you have distant scenery to look at, instead of just a wall.

Maybe the blank parts of the map are there so that the map isnt a perfect square like on fallout 3?Personally I wouldnt want the add ons to be a part of the mainland,I'd want it to be somewhere else so that it would be different from the regular game.

I'm not too concerned about those areas, it feels like the section of the Mojave we get is fleshed out well. I like offworld DLCs, I just wish we could get to them by FO1/FO2 style travel.
