Weak Ending

Post » Thu May 03, 2012 3:42 pm

I just beat the game on hard for my first, and probably only, playthrough, and the ending / last boss was weak as hell. I mean, there wasn't even a boss, just about 20 of those mutants with pulse cannons.

Seriously id, is that all you got? From the people who created the towering wall of death in doom 2, or the giant hell demon in doom 3, i was expecting a battle with some super geneto mutant and four arms and 4 different weapons. Instead i got 1 mob that i had to kill 20 times and then that's it. I didn't even die / defib once or use a bandage on the last encounter.

Yea, i could go through nightmare mode, but why, so i can run through the same stuff again, just taking more and dealing less damage i presume?

The lame racing component of the game is reason enough for me not to want to play it again.

You make shooters, Not racing games. If i wanted vehicles with guns, i'd go play twisted metal.

Anyway, that's just an aside, my biggest letdown is still the lack of a truly end-game boss. It's just disappointing that I got the bfg rounds and never had to use them. I could have wasted them on some smaller enemies, but I was expecting something worthy of being blown to hell with them like the 5 story tall boss I fought when I first got the rocket launcher. Now that was actually a pretty fun fight. Not that hard mind you, as even he only took me two tries to kill, but still fun.

Ok well, that's about it. Try harder next time id, you can do better than this.

id is a great development company, but I agree that they could've packed much more content into this game. I jus got this game 3 days ago and I'm 12 hours into it and halfway through the main story line, and I feel that game is just too scarce with jobs. Sure when you do get them it takes a long time to get through a level and they're great fun, but I feel that they spent much more time with combat (this game has BY FAR the best combat I've seen in a long time) and racing than they did with jobs, places, and extra stuff to do in general.

As a whole the game isn't great, but it isn't bad either. It's just good. If they had just put more jobs and content into it, it would probably be a far much better game.

Well we should remember this was id's first attempt at a game that included more then corridor after corridor and key hunting. What they already added to the "traditional" id format really took them out of their comfort zone and I'm sure they learned a lot from developing Rage. But yes, they needed more jobs and what not. Also better writers, especially ones that know how to make a satisfying ending and a story with substance to it.

ive just finished this game also and i really enjoyed it up until the ending aswell.. just too many dead ends and locked doors it feels like all of the hard work went into the first level and then suddenly someone said "we have to realease this" and BAM unfinished masterpiece..
I was hoping for some Mad Max stuff here.....

In my own opinion the ending itself would have been fine had there been better lead up to it, that's the part I think was weak. The second hub was a shadow of the first and left a lot of people feeling a bit short changed. When you play a game and spend 80% of your time doing the introduction, you expect the finale to last around the same time after you get past the halfway point.

As for the racing component, people were well aware of it prior to purchase and as far back as its first reveal.

The ending svcked, no climix no finale no feeling of achievement just a "Thanks for the $60 your time is up! Please deposit another $60 for Rage 2! feeling" .

personally i thought the ending, yes it was not overall exciting but what did get me excited was the fact that it left it open for a rage2 (as well as the hint in the dead city :P) and i started to think of the possibilities of the intro for rage2 (if they do it) and if you read my http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1329274-what-do-you-think-rage-2-should-add-to-the-game/ it explains my idea if i was to make Rage2 (which one day hopefully i could do for real) so instead of complaining think of what they could make as 'nocharacter' said it is id's first attempt at a game that is not corridor followed by corridor.

and one final thing i thought the combat was a first glimpse at what games could be become i am on about the acrobatics and the smartish AI.

Weak ending...more like worst game ending I've ever seen....really. Reminded me of a bad PS2 title.

The worst part is that there was so much good about this game. It just feels as if they ran out of money and ideas halfway through or something. I also would have preferred more upgrades for weapons rathyer than having to rely on armor peircing ammo all the time. I mean honestly there was NO POINT to using anything but armor peircing bullets. I was also really let down by the fact there wasnt a point to using the standard assault rifle over the authority machine gun which had more damage, better accuracy, higher fire rate and it was easy as hell to find Armor peircing ammo. Also I found it incredibly sad I literally had to throw away th monocular to make the pistol a useful close range weapon. If they make a rage 2 here are my reccomendations.

1: More upgrades!
2: More than one type of armor that you pick once and are stuck with -_-
3: give a unique attribute to weapons with similar roles to make them different. I mean in saints row there are 2 pistols which are literally the same weapon only reskinned. the only differences is the final upgrades makes them unique and this gave a much greater sense of diversity. It would have been great to have a reason to upgrades the assult rifle rather than just replace it with the authority machine gun incredibly early in the game.
4: more exploration + locked doors: in all honesty i find that by the end of the game I had 20 lock grinders in m,y inventory just lying there and I realized that you only ended up using like 8 of them total anyway. It would also be nice if there was a bigger exploration/scavenging aspect to the game
5: More jobs on the job board + real rewards for doing so: I was incredily happy when I recieved a sniper upgrade upon starting an early mission job board and I was incredibly dissapointed to find that this never happened under any other circumstance. I was also let down by the fact there was no additional loot in levels you would have to revisit later ( i mena really the only difference in the one authority contriolled zone is it had some emp grenades lying around.
6: Steampunk: Moar.
7: more to capital prime? It was seriously a building with like 10 corridors. this is the capital city of the authority?

This is R&D gamers, they spent so much time making the world that they needed room for input, and the best way to get it is bad press, imagine Rage 2, I bet all your concerns and critisism will be addressed.

There was nothing wrong with the ending. Crysis 2, BF3 and COD4 -all had prety lousy endings... (C2 is a great game though!).

What you guys wanted to summon a dragon with a magic wand?

I guess they wanted a large scale battle with bosses and such - though the end level wouldn't really have much space for that.

I'd say all id games resemble 3D Packman with better graphics. Run down the corridor, eat everything in sight, run some more. No real puzzles to solve or interactive environments or surprise twists or whatever. With Rage they added just about everything they could think of that wouldn't slow down the frames per second, but most of their effort still went into that basic Packman formula. Great driving dynamics and animations, but a shallow Plot and just serviceable dialogue. Carmack has already said they'll keep using the animations and hopefully that means they'll put more effort into improving the plot and dialogue.

How about a complete lack of knowing what happened? They could've done a short voice over with the camera revolving around the Earth saying the Resistance won and humanity was well on its way to rebuilding or something along those lines.

Crysis 2's ending wasn't great but it was better than RAGE's.

BF3's was exactly the same way.

CoD 4's was good, it would've svcked if it had just faded out with the main bad guy getting shot but no they gave us a short scene of you being airlifted and a short News broadcast aswell. I actually felt like I accomplished something.

It was made by id, NOT Bethesda.

id has made games like Doom 1-3.

Bethesda published it.
