Weapon camouflage?

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 8:57 pm

From what I've gathered (from http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OGszqaRdJyE&feature=related, notice "Preview Security Version" at 1:08) the weapon skin differs depending on which faction you're playing for, an example being the urban camouflaged Kross SMG seen http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sTP-zluDneE (brought to attention by reptaR), probably the Resistance's variation.

An interesting concept, but not really customizable. While I'm aware that the basic idea of camouflage itself probably won't be a major asset in this game, weapons skins in general add another level of customization to your character. Particularly since it's generally the only visible part of your character while in-game. In a game that boasts a deep level of customization I think it would be a great addition.

At the end of the day I admit it's only eye candy and serves no purpose like the attachments do, but the same could be said for the clothing options. I'm honestly satisfied with the fact that they made a visual difference between faction weapons and I'm trying to draw attention to that, but also discussing what multiple options would mean for customization.

Comments, opinions? =)

(I apologize if this has been discussed, I did search.)

I really don't care that much since it doesn't really impact gameplay. If you want it cool if not that is cool too. Faction based is good enough for me.

Agreed, that alone is a great addition and the core focus of my post. =)

Any idea what Security weapon skins looks like? The Resistance seems to have urban or red/black patterned camo skins.

It would be a cool addition, but I personally wouldn't mind if it wasn't included. Also, that red text is really irritating to read.

Well I wouldn't expect it to be a deal breaker for anyone.

And your complaint has been received and will be reviewed by customer support. =)

I honestly don't understand the flak I receive for my font, if it were yellow or on the foreground of a conflicting color I would understand. Would bold make a difference?

It's too bright is all. It reminds me of that dreaded thing they call "sunlight".

I know he's not the first to mention it either, and i'm sure i wont be the last. Having to read any form of colored text is exceedingly obnoxious. It makes you seem like your 12, trying to be "unique" and get more attention. Whether or not thats your age i'm sure its still the intent...

That's a rather ignorant comment, even the default font is colored. I choose a colored font relevant to my interests because it helps express my individuality and personalty in a land full of anonymity. Not to mention it helps people differentiate my post from others when specifically looking for my response, especially considering the signature limitations on this forum. The quality of my post is what you should be paying attention to, not what color it happens to be. I could make several comments regarding your username, but instead I treat you with the respect I myself would like to be given. Either way this isn't the place to discuss what my "intent" is, I invite you to PM if you feel so inclined to make further assumptions about me.

Staying on topic, how about you do the same and share your opinion about the actual subject here. =)

Thanks for that

Thats the last you'll hear of it from me, you know how i, and others feel. Enough said.

About the topic yes, i actually think it would be cool to color your weapons to your liking. If i recall, the factions have unique models and texture styles (rebels being an older, rusty, salvaged look. The security have newer, shiny guns, and i believe they could be worked deeply. However, i'd rather see it as something they decided they could fit in, and not have to spend alot of time in the development process working it out. I'm wanting the game itself to just be done. I KNOW they could wrap it up if they wanted to right now, i've got a very good insight as to how the industry works. We've seen it, the working AI (which can be 50% of the development right there) a good level of character models and weapons. The majority of the main stages are likely done, and all thats left is the fine tuning, polish, and to wrap up whatever is left. The 6 month delay was more then likely a political decision. Brink doesnt have a very huge fan base, nor is it getting alot of light, so releasing it where alot of games arnt i'm sure they feel will give it a better chance, rather then have to make it wedge its way though the competition.

God i get off topic easilly :P

When specifically looking for my response. Way to take my post out of context, talk about selective reading. I honestly don't understand the problem with expressing one's individuality, it's no different that choosing a username/avatar/signature, I simply take it a step further. If I were using bright yellow font and posting inflammatory remarks I would understand, but that simply isn't the case. If you want to conform to the standards of everyone else that's your prerogative. Honestly, if it truly brothers you that much don't bother reading my posts, because it really makes no difference to me despite the attention seeking complex you seem to think I harbor. I have more important things to concern myself with considering I color my font anywhere, whether it be forums, email, or instant messaging. The option is there for a reason, silly.

I'm simply customizing my font as one would customize their character in Brink.

Regarding the topic I agree wholeheartedly. =)

Weapon customization would make a great afterthought addition, provided it doesn't interfere with more important development plans. Right now Brink has received little attention, allowing for more time to work out the kinks and generate more publicity is a wise decision. There are a lot of big name franchises releasing titles this holiday season that would be difficult to compete against. Considering the way Brink incorporates multiplayer a bigger audience would really benefit it, so I have no complaints about the later release.

It is slightly harder to read, for me at least. I have bad eyes though.

Anyway, I'm fairly certain that we'll be able to choose from a wide variety of weapon skins when customizing our projectile acceleration devices. For a game with such a heavy emphasis on customization and individuality to force us all to use green SMG's all the time is unthinkable. Unlikely, even.

As to the topic question, I am of course heavily in favor of customizable weapon camos. I do so love customization. I, personally, think it would be quite awesome if I could make my weapons copper and bronze. Why, just look at what that color scheme can do to a lowly NERF dart gun: http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_vv5SDGCiuso/SSgoxjqsmYI/AAAAAAAABjs/vGuwcxkbSNg/s400/2307099935_20f8c0d22a_o.jpg

Camouflage generally isn't a solid color, but yes, I would probably choose red if the option were available, what gave it away? =O

No the red font is extremely annoying but it doesnt matter, and i do agree with chaos shadow on this one... Anyways I love customization in any way and by adding more customization of weapons colours would make the game just that more awesome...

I think it would be neat if they let us color the guns ourselves. Like, you choose the main color, two secondary colors, and the detail color, then you can choose various camoflauge patterns if you want. Think Armored Core, if any of you guys have played it.

from what ive seen so far, there is a wide variety of camos. there is a small chance that you can make them yourselves

EDIT: now im not sure. i went back to check the new videos but in the weapon customization screen, there is nothing about camos. the gun already had a yellow urban camo on it. as snookie pointed out, there is something at the bottom that says "see security version" which hints that the 2 guns look different. maybe they share the same camos, but the security version wont have the bandages and rust that the resistance has on their guns.

my votes still on that it was either a tactical delay, or something got screwed up. Would be nice if they came up with something for our patience.

I believe camo would be fantastic on a gun!(more happy if you can choose) and i would like the idea of being able to choose a primary, secondary, and detail color(though that is very unlikely). And really who cares what the font color is because we all have a color we like and we can all choose to express it in whatever manner we would like. I see no point in having an argument over what color a font is. I'm ok with white so i think i'll stick to white

I like customizable camo, it adds another layer of personalization to games. Though I prefer it when its all the same price, in MW2 kids like to use Fall camo not because they like it aesthetically, but because they think it makes you jealous because it takes more headshots.

Rather off topic, but the weapon customization looks outstanding! There seem to be so many variations, as well as weapons! Incredible!
