For those of you who play as battlemages, what type(s) of weapons do you prefer? Is one better suited that any other?

I watched some videos about battlemage classes and it seems that many people suggest specializing in one-handed weapons. Obviously in Skyrim this is advantageous because you have the ability to dual wield. And as for battlemages that means a weapon in one hand and a spell in the other. Now this would seem like the logical choice, but closer examination may suggest otherwise. And I'm interested to hear what some of you battlemage veterans have to say.

Here's my thinking.

I'm thinking about going two-handed for my weapon choice. I understand that I will not be able to cast spells once I have my weapon equipped but by the time I'm swinging my weapon around, the time for casting spells has all but ended (correct me if I'm wrong). Its fairly quick to go from dual casting spells (which is what I would be doing prior to equipping my two-handed weapon) to fighting with a weapon. What this will allow for is the ability to dual cast spells, which you can't do if you've got a sword in one hand.

The other options is sword and shield. Switching back and forth in my right hand between a weapon and a spell when needed.

Again, I'm fairly new to this build and I'm looking for suggestions. I really like the idea of not being tied to one particular weapon type.
