Weapon Design Question (nifskope & CK)

I have been playing with nifmerging in nifskope and putting several different kinds of objects together in the game. These are mostly practice on basic items to get a basic concept down for larger projects but I have come accross something that many of you might already know about.

I was wondering how the weapons, while equiped and in your hands, are rendered as opposed to the ground object. So far what I have done is introduce some havok elements to an iron sword (for practice) though the havok elements cease to render while holding the sword in hand.

Specifically I attached a hinge jaw to the base of an iron sword. When I 'grab' it in third person it is weighted and hinges like it is suppose to but not when equiped. Its more like a 'static' graphic with no movement other than the motion from the hand.

What I want to know is why or how to access the elements might be manipulated for items when in hand. Is there a CK option I am not cheking? Everything seems to be in place in the nif for that model. If I can figure this part out then weapons and armor with added hinges or movable parts would be an option and an awesome aspect of the game...
