Weapons you miss.

Post » Sun Mar 06, 2011 2:48 am

FO:NV brought back a lot of classic guns that were missing from FO3 (the Winchester P94, now called "plasma Caster", "That Gun", the 14mm Pistol, now called 12.7mm, ect), but are there any favorites you still miss? Are there any guns of FO3 that you miss in New Vegas?

I miss some of the more "Futuristic" guns, not energy weapons, but physical guns. Like the H&K G11 caseless in FO2, or the needler pistol. For that matter, I miss the "classic" gauss weapons as a physical projectile gun rather than an energy weapon, and the pistol version of the gauss rifle (the Walther PPK12)

As far as energy weapons go, I miss the pulse guns, they were the best energy weapons in FO2 after all: the Yuca Flats Energy Consortium YK32 pistol and YK42 rifle.

I'd like the YK32 Pulse pistol and Gauss pistol back in.

Other than that, they did a pretty good job of adding back in the classic Fallout arsenal; and if the exact weapon isn't in NV, there is something at least anologous to it. I did prefer the FO2 laser weapons more, but hey, we stilll have laser pistols and rifles, just a different design.

I just wish that the energy weapon critical deaths followed the same pattern. In FO2 it was clearly defined: Laser weapons cut people in half; plasma weapons melt them to goo; and pulse weapons disintegrate them into a pile of ash.

I was disappointed when I got a critical hit on an enemy with a laser pistol and they disintegrated instead of being bisected.

I agree with the OP about the Gauss weapons actually firing projectiles and being classified as firearms, like they ought to be.

Other than that, I just wish the Hunting Rifle was more use-able in VATS like it was in FO3. with an AP cost of 60 I can only get off one shot.

What I miss is the dart gun. My last play through of F3 consisted of using only the dart gun (once I was able to craft it) and the shock sword.

They do fire projectiles. Energy weapons are classified for using energy cells and flamer fuel. Not for what is fired.

Guns, on the other hand, use cased ammunition and powder. A gauss rifle that uses cased ammo is doing it very very wrong.

I miss the Railway Rifle most of all. It fit so well into the post-apok theme imo.

I miss Chinese swords a little too.

Definitely the Railway Rifle and that other gun that shot random useless junk out of your inventory that I can't remember the name of.

Neither one was extremely powerful or anything, but they were fun and environment appropriate.

Yes you are right, but in FO1-2 they used the SMALL GUNS skill not the ENERGY WEAPONS skill.

They were a much-needed late-game addition to the firepower of a guns-user.

Wasn't too happy myself seeing the new face of the Gauss rifle, expand the mag, drop the scope, and drop the blast radius. Its a magnetically propelled projectile, not an explosive\true energy weapon.

I agree with gabriel, would have loved to see the OLD pulse weapons as well with some nice electrocution effects (not only for robots and power armor). Started missing the mega power fist first day I started playing. The p90 to replace the 9 or 10 mm would be cool (I know there are mods but legit ftw). I think I could pass on the MIRV, they nerfed the fatboy quite a bit so it'd be a favorable substitution but the ammo is too rare to make any decent use out of it. Instead they give you archemides and the c-finder.

@Gungho, they did have a nailboard in there, can't remember where I picked it up but it does pretty much powerfist damage.

The alien weapons were fun, sadly there's no canon way to get them into the game excepting another alien crash site or abduction. Unfortunately I doubt they'll just rehash zeta in FONV.

if you're using the PC version you can use the GECK to change what skill & ammo a weapon needs

I cant believe there is no standard assault rifle in new vegas  it would have been perfect for true iron sights ( why dont laser weapons have iron sights? )

There is an automatic version of the service rifle, the assault carbine. It's no g3 or sks but it's there.
