Weathered 10mm Pistol Fix

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 8:38 am

First I will say, I do know there are several mods already out there claiming to fix the bug with the weathered 10mm pistol and, even the last patch was supposed to fix this too. I don't like most of the mod fixes because they ether simply use the vanilla 10mm pistol textures or, they feel like cheats and, the patch did fix the missing mesh marker but, it doesn't switch the meshs.

I'm also playing around with this because I've never really modded weapons and, now that my modeling skills have improved I have some ideas for custom weapons mods. Therefor, I want to learn about how they work.

Since the 10mm pistol and the weathered 10mm pistol use the same model, with different textures, I went through (In Nifscope) and redirected all of the variants to the appropriate Pre-order texture. I placed them in there directory inside of the mesh folder and, began to work on my fix. I went to the weapon, mod tab and, changed all of the nifs to my new retextured ones.

This didn't work, whatever mod I applied the model didn't change. I went back and, changed all of the 1st person pre-order models to my new ones and, still no change. I thought maybe it was because I was using a save that might be considered dirty, I started a new game, cheated my weapons mods in but, that wasn't it.

Am I missing something to get the models to switch?

Any help would be appreciated.

The Vault:

As of patch 1.2.0.31x (and patch 1.2.0.285 on the PC) applying mods to this weapon will not update the weapon's shape. This appears to be due to some manner of hard-coded override in the engine itself keyed specifically to the weapon, rather than a change to the weapon itself.

Seems like there's nothing that can be done sorry.

SomeWelshGuy,

Thanks for the info, I guess I'll try to make my own unique pistol. This was really for personal use and, to learn some new things.

Being obsessive compulsive I couldn't accept that I couldn't fix this gun! After some playing around I found a work around to make the Weathered 10mm pistol properly moddable. I created a new pistol using my retextured meshes and, copied the original Pre-order pistols stats to the letter. One I got that working I started to look at the scripts, I found that the Pre-order pack used additem so, I changed the weathered 10mm with my new one.

The only draw back to this fix is that it only works when starting a new game because the Classic pact script pops only once as the new game is loading.

Once I wright up a little readme and, pack up my files I will release this for anyone who is interested.

Here are some screens.

I don't know what all the fuss is about, I modified my preorder 10mm the first week that FNV was out. In fact I made two versions, one 10mm has mildly enhanced characteristics more suited to a custom weapon. So why didn't I publish my version? There was already one 10mm Mod out and I didn't want to compete with that person, I wanted to give someone else the opportunity to do a Mod. As to what you've said, Cev, I had no idea that none of the other 10mm Mods had not yet adequately solved the problem.

Just because I'm curious, what does your silencer look like in 1st person? The 1st person silencer texture has always been wrong on the silencer and is wrong on the vanilla 10mm as well. There is a fix for that but I don't know if any of the other 10mm Mods fixes that.

The other thing that is curious is that you can mod the preorder pistol to look proper in 3rd person but if you drop the weapon it will look exactly like the vanilla 10mm. That can also be fixed by including a properly modded World model.

I do not think the 1.2.0.314 patch fixed anything about the preorder 10mm problems. The preorder 10mm problems are inside the ClassicPack which I don't think has ever been updated. As far as I can tell the .314 patch may have just added some hardcoded fixes to prevent the in-game missing mesh display, the preorder 10mm is still borked unless a Mod is applied.

One issue remains, the 10mm looks way too large when viewed from a 3rd person perspective. Something about the 'scale' of the weapon, I wonder if it's possible to change that without somehow modifying the .nif file. I just don't look at it (the weapon) but that's not a good solution.

I'm not sure of the texture issues your talking about, could you explain or, post an image.

I did fix the world model to properly show the weathered 10mm pistol.

I could try to scale the models to make them feel a bit smaller but, I'm worried it my mess with there animations and, cause other issues.

The Alternate Texture for the silencer in 1st person is missing both in patch 285 and patch 314, I mean missing as in a blank entry in the Alternate Texture entries for the silencer. There is also no Texture Set assigned for the silencer texture, that has to be added as well. What then happens is that a wrong texture mapping is applied to the 1st person view of the silencer. Compare the 3rd person view with the 1st person view of the silencer, without the Alternate Texture the entire pistol texture is wrapped around the silencer giving the appearance of a lot of blocks and lines instead of the relatively smooth flat texture you see in 3rd person. This is true for both the vanilla 10mm and any modded 10mm unless the 1st person model has had the silencer Alternate Texture assigned to the correct texture file. I suppose the problem might otherwise be fixed by doing a different .nif for the 1st person model but it is better to use Alternate Textures instead of adding another mesh especially because then the correct Alternate Texture is automatically applied to any 10mm silencer on any 10mm pistol.

I did fix the world model to properly show the weathered 10mm pistol.

Well done then! I think that was missing in some of the first Mods available.

I thought the same thing, I just don't know enough about how that all works so I left it alone.

I still haven't ben able to find the texture issue your talking about. I possibly fixed this (Inadvertently) while retexturing the vanilla nif's but, I didn't see the same issue when double checking the 10mm pistole.

for a test I tried to scale the pistol in several ways, none of my efforts worked. The animations are the issue and, they are well beyond me.

Sorry,
