A Weighted Question

Post » Tue Jun 19, 2012 4:41 pm

I realize in past games many, if not all of these items, had a Weight to them. I've only played Oblivion and Skyrim, and don't remember if Arrows weighed anything in Oblivion, however the question is:

Why are Arrows weightless but things like Ingredients, Food, and Potions are not?

It doesn't make a lot of sense that picking up 100 Arrows will do nothing, but if you carry 10 Potatoes that it can over encumber you.

Why do you feel it is this way, in terms of mechanics, gameplay, etc?

Arrows had weight in Oblivion. They really should in Skyrim too, frankly.

I don't get it either but only a mod can fix this.

EDIT: I doubt Bethesda will bother just looking at this.

Have you ever picked up a barrel of potatoes? Then tried to carry it around? LOL! It's kind of heavy.

But arrows are generally weightless.

The DEVs determine the weight of an item. Hell for all we know they might have a scale with a table full of ingredients in their office and use it as means of what weighs what :P

Bows have weight, so it is not like there is a no weight bonus to being an archer. I have seen some mods that give weight to arrows in past games. Also Money does not have weight, but who could carry around a 100,000 gold coins? It is one of those make it this way for the game or dramatically increase encumbrance for everyone.

I think it would be to annoying if arrows and gold had weight...
I don't necessarily agree with them being weightless but.

Also it would make archery even less attractive since you need to have a good amount of arrows (weight) on you at all times.

But yeah, it wouldn't be bad if arrows and gold weighted 0.1
It would add to the realism and "struggle".

What they could have tone was had the thing you put the arrows in have weight. That way at least there is some weight to arrows.

I think arrows are weightless for balancing reasons. As an archer I would want at least 300 arrows when going around some dungeons, and assuming they weigh 0.1 each, that's 30 weight. That means an archer would weigh more than a warrior just because they need to carry arrows, which wouldn't really be fair. Of course you can argue that warriors carry heavier weapons and armour, but that's another debate. I think ingredients and food do weigh something, because they are not required for a certain style of play.

Someone mentioned this; why not give quivers a weight that have a storage capacity? If you want to hold more Arrows you have to carry a heavier quiver.

It just seems rather odd that Ingredients like flowers weight more than Arrows.
