Oh. Well. That was kind of dissapointing..

(potential spoiler)

So, in the end I had these quests to go get the platinum chip from the fort yadda yadda you know the story.
However, I'm absolutely hated by casears legion and am shot on site, so had been holding off on going to thr fort for ages thinking 'well surely, there must be another way than just through a massive bloodbath...?"
But no. Apparently not. So I loaded up on ammo and human remains, got Boone nice and angry and dusted off Ed-E, and went forth.. to the fort.

The ensuing massacre was quite horrific, allthough I cant say Caesars legion was quite as hard as they'd seemed when I was level 4. Eventually I get to a tent, cue another massive massacre, there's bullets and blades and men in skirts and body parts flying everywhere and bodies exploding and Ed-E humming to itself, and Boone shouting "DIE DIE DIE!!".
After the massacre, I was looting/eating the bodies, as you do, and realised that once of the bodies was called 'Caesar'.

THAT'S IT?! CAESAR, A MIDDLEAGED MAN IN A SKIRT, TAKEN DOWN BY A CHEM FUELLED FREAK?

I thought that that was the end of the game! OR perhaps that I'd suddenly just like that become hero of the wasteland, I was beside myself with glee and even fed Ed-E a stimpak as a treat. I Talk to boone expecting a clap on the back, a heavy makeout session, you know, something.

But no. He laughed at me and said something along the lines of 'yup, you got him good but it dont mean much. Infact there's a long line of people waiting to take over".

So after all the hype of this big scary monster Caesar, turns out he's just guy, who's not actually that important.
For a while there I thought I'd overthrown Caesars legion and would forever after never have to pay for another beer/[censored] again.

Back to prospecting it is..

Caesar wasn't supposed to be any sort of boss character, ever, by any means, at all, in any shape or form, period.

And I'm guessing you haven't done the Legion questline yet. Do that now, and you'll find out how unimportant he really is,

Spoiler
You can kill him in one of the quests he gives you, and the Legion won't change.

He's an old man with a brain tumor. What were you expecting?

Caesar isn't the boogieman, his Legion is.

Also, try turning your difficulty up. Or doing it without Turbo.

The man's got enough bodyguards with ballistic fists that it is extremely dangerous.

Well you are a big ass hero now.

You actually DO get a free bottle at the Atomic Wrangler for it and several people in NCR thank you.

Some people at Gomorrah, alternatively, [censored] about it.

Oddly, just as many people thank you for killing Motor-Runner.

Still, I think it should have been part of the Epilogue if you killed Caesar.

^^thanks for that. I'll be sure to head over to the atomic wrangler and see what Fisto has to give me.

Anyway this is my first play through, and as a mostly good, NCR friendly charecter, Caesar IS meant to be portrayed as some big scary monster. After all, it's Caesars legion, not bobs legion, so due to this I was lead to beleive that yeah, he was kinda a big deal.

Mister House has a slightly more enthusiastic statement about it if he's still alive.

Basically, Mister House says, "Well, the army currently parked outside in our backyard isn't going to just pack up and leave because you killed their Messiah. However, in a few years, Caesar's legion will undoubtedly collapse due to infighting over his successor. NOW onto other business... "

The balance of the game has been curbstomped from release date.
So what did you expect?

The PC get to use unlimited amounts of chems and medicine, have unique/top tier weapons not obtainable by generic NPC's, have 100 % weapons and armor and perks that do magical +damage effects.

While generic NPC's get mid or low CND weapons and armor, no perks, rarely any stims, don't use chems, and can't pause time in VATS.

Not to mention that the PC for some reason gets a magical increase in general health with each "level" while enemies stay static in their stats.

So again, what did you expect?
Neither Bethesda nor Obsidian excelled at creating challenging combat.

No no no you mistunderstand!
I'm not saying it was an easy battle, far from it! Indeed, many of the limbs flying across the tent were my own.
The battle was satisfying, but I was just suprised that that really was it from caesar. I'd been convinced that going to the fort really would be a 'boss fight' of sorts..
Oh well.

I dont suppose he's going to pop up somewhere and shout "fool! That was simply one of my soldiers recruited to be a decoy for me, you didnt think I'D be so easy, did you?!"..

By the way, you could have tried to put on legion armor before going there, might have worked (but I'm not sure) to upgrade the securitrons without a massive bloodbath.

Actually it DOES change. Ceasar has a sense of brutal honor, Lanius's ending for nearly every settlement is 'They marched into ____, and _____ was slaughtered'

The Legion in-game don't change. They don't turn hostile.
