So whats your favourite medieval weapon ?

Also how do people become weapons experts like the guest that show up on Deadliest Warrior ?

Like do they get payed to research and swing weapons around all day, or do they do that in their spare time posting videos somewhere, eventually getting noticed by the DW people?

I like the http://stlouis.art.museum/emuseum/media/full/431919_1.jpg and the http://www.southernswords.co.uk/images/brk-GB099.JPG

They look like they'd cut through plate armor and chain mail easily.

I like things that leave giant radioactive holes in the ground. Like tactical nukes, Chernobyl......etc...

I think they were a bit thin on the ground in mediaeval times, though, unless someone found a particularly ripe cow carcass to catapult around...

Dagger with ACOG and laser attachment. Accuracy is important.

The crow was considered an effective weapon, I read once. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bec_de_corbin

Trebuchets are a classic. For example, the War Wolf: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/War_Wolf

Generally, I'm assuming most of them actually have some type of college degree in history, and have additional experience in recreation, which aids them in their research. Some are pure reenactors, or straight up martial artists who teach combat at their own studios or wherever.

It's definitely their day job tho, or at least part of it. I doubt there are any guys who work at McDonald's, say, and just post youtube videos of themselves swinging around stainless steel knockoffs from ebay. Most of them have an education, and on top of that, extensive training in using the weapons, learned from someone else.

I don't really have a favorite, there are too many appealing weapons to just choose one. Axes have always been well off though in my book, and recently I've learned to appreciate longswords and it's closer relatives. And halberds, they look pretty BA and come across as versatile.

Flails. You almost never see flails in fantasy video games. Is it because they'd be much tougher to animate properly?

A http://i332.photobucket.com/albums/m342/hewhosmitesall/Heavy-Flanged-Mace.jpg?t=1276033647 will do. Block it with a shield and I bet your arm will still hurt like hell. Depending on how its designed you could stab with it too.

Partially I guess. I've also heard they weren't really used much in medieval times, contrary to popular belief.

I dont think many would use them, the dont seem that practical and mor elikely to hurt you.

Well if we want to get into debating practical stuff in medieval settings... I don't think there were many near skin-tight plate armors with massive cleavages back then either.

You can find flails in Dungeons & Dragons. I love playing clerics with flails.

Do yourself a favor and stop watching Deadliest Warrior. They don't know jack about any of the stuff they talk about.
