To Werewolf Or Not To Werewolf ?

Post » Thu Jun 07, 2012 7:58 am

I have a question about turning into a Werewolf in The Companions Quest.

First of all, on this particular run through I really am being a loner rebel purist. I wanted to join no fractions, take no sides and basically do nothing but roam around and have encounters and BTW I did finish the main quest. (but as a example of my character, I did not kill that Dragon Pathrox or whatever, as I did not feel he deserved to die). So I got no help from Delphine or them.

Back on subject - BUT I then heard about these weapons Eural Greymane can make you if you finished The Companions Quests. So I went against my better judgment and I joined them (for the first time ever). Well I was cool with everything until they want to convert me into a Werewolf. I turned it down cause I am unsure I want to be one and don't know the consequences of being one yet. But now it seems like I can't move forward with their quests until I do that.

So I ask, number 1, is there a way to continue forward in their quests without becoming a Werewolf ?
#2 - Is there a way to get them weapons without becoming a Werewolf ?
#3 - Are the weapons even worth it ? And Id there Armor too ?
#4 - Exactly what are the CONS of being a Werewolf ? (I know the obvious PROS)
#5 - If I was to become a Werewolf, is there a cure I could take to turn me back ?

I would hate to become a Werewolf and then find out there were some things about being one that ruined my particular game this go around.

Thanks for any help --

I'll just answer your 2 most important questions. Yes, you must become a werewolf to continue the quest line. Yes, you can be cured of lycanthropy later, if you choose. (Hint: Don't ignore optional quest objectives.)

As a werewolf, you are immune to all disease, including vampirism. The downside is that you don't get rested or well-rested bonuses from sleeping. Small loss, imo. Every one of my characters has been a werewolf and stayed that way permanently, even though none of them uses the beast form at all.

Thanks for the answers. Sounds simple enough, and pretty nonintrusive to normal standard gameplay. I guess I'm just gonna go for it.

But one last detailed question.. Will anyone else know I am a Werewolf ? And if so, does that cause any problems for me as far as my reputation around town as being cool and helpful and law-abiding ? As I am trying to remain on everybody's good side. Oh and also effect the haggling rates I get from merchants ? etc.. ?

Thanks

Once in a while, a guard might say "is that fur, coming out of your ears?" :) No real consequences at all.

Ha !, Yea I can live with that. Ok, well thanks for your speedy answers. I guess I'm off to become a Werewolf at the hands of that Aeo girl.

Is she going to bite me ?

I also like, "With respect, Companion, I'm going to have to ask you to muzzle that dog of yours."

Aela won't bite you, unless you deserve it, or she's really hungry.

The weapons and armor you can get before becoming werewolf. I like their weapons and armor a lot. Their sword is as good as elven sword, but lighter and can be improved twice as much with only steel smithing perk. Their armor is same as steel, but much lighter. It's a good armor for early game. Many people like getting Daedric armor and weapons as soon as possible, but I sometimes stay with Wolf Armor and Skyforge Steel all the way to the end of the game.

This is good info, thanks !

But I was referring to the weapons that Eurland Greymane will help you forge if you bring him Ancient Nord Weapons.. You're only able to do this after completing the last quest for The Companions. Or something like that. My friend said they are called Draugr weapons and that they are the most powerful in the game ! You can then also enchant them of course !

So my goal is to try to get these. I also was unclear if Draugr Armor was also available ? Or what possible perks will be needed to achieve this task ?

But thanks agin for the info, as I never even tried the Wolf stuff.

The Nord Hero Weapons are lighter and better than normal weapons, the UESP will have the actual stats in a chart for comparison.
The Ancient Nord Armor has the same stats as Iron, but is popular because it is unique. I am not cruel enough to link to pictures of Aela without warpaint, but she is still considered one of the sixiest females in the game because of her Armor.

I just heard them say these to me, plus one more. "Euugh, what have you been tending to your hounds ? You smell like a wet dog"

 If he only knew !

werewolf...you're immune to disease and never have to turn or feed to keep people talkin to you like vamps, nor does your normal features change. Also if you like to run instead of fast travel, in beast form you run faster and have more.stamina then those useless horses

Although running as a werewolf might incur you some bounties if someone sees you transforming i think. Can't remember if they put a bounty when you approach them as a werewolf

If they see you transform, yes. If they don't see that, then you can do whatever evil deeds you want as a werewolf, and you won't incur a bounty. I'm not sure if your follower is a fly in that ointment, though.

The thing is that as your character develops, the beast form gets left behind in terms of damage and defense. It's fun at low levels, but can get you killed later on. I'm also not a fan of having to reequip everything after turning human again.

Lycanthropy, oddly enough, benefits mage type characters more than warrior types. Even a maxed out Dr. Doom (omg, just gave myself a new RP idea) can take full advantage of beast forms fast melee combat.

For warriors, a shout and a war hammer can pretty much do what beast form does.

The Companions are an *AWESOME* guild to join up with if you're going for melee, for the Skyforge Steel alone. Elven tier damage, steel tier weight smithing and cost. Only downside is it seems they neglected to add the Warhammer and Mace. On the plus side, you get one freebie once you pass the initiation.

And the trick to killing as a Werewolf is the howling. Howl often. It works as crowd control, and also helps you single out the heavier enemies. Since they are not affected, they have priority killing. SAVAGE them. RIP them apart. Sprint power attacking is particularly devastating. All the ones that are scared you can maul at your leisure, but the ones that resist need to be taken out right away.

Don't forget that skyforge steel daggers are non-upgradeable.

If used correctly it's pretty strong.
