WETriggerScript WARNING: getMyHoldFactionControllerMarker().

Post » Thu May 31, 2012 7:21 am

I just got the new 1.5 patch on Steam and all was ok in my skyrim game until I tried to fast travel to a cave I had been to before. When I got there I was greeted with the error "WETriggerScript WARNING: getMyHoldFactionControllerMarker()...". If I reload my save and fast travel to any other location I see the same error. Anyone know why this is? Thank you!

I would love to post a picture but I guess I am too new to post links :blush:

I am only using Enhanced_Night_Skyrim_v04_High_Stars-85-0-4 & Time_on_loading_v5-98

But these problems start my first play after Steam downloaded the 1.5 patch yesterday

What mods have you been running before? Were they installed manually, via NMM or SW? Does this happen with a brand new save game?

Worth regenerating your .ini files just in case.

I've seen this error attributed to the use of Wars in Skyrim (mod). It doesn't have to be an active mod - if a game is saved with that mod active, information will be stored in the save game that references faction information. This error occurs when a random encounter normally takes place (after fast travel or upon exiting an interior location like a mine). Since the faction information refers to factions that don't exist in the default game, this error appears. This is the risk you take using user-created mods that alter hidden game mechanics such as factions.

I have NEVER used any mods other than the two visual ones listed above.

I have also NEVER used any console commands.

If I load an older save it does not do it and again this started AFTER the 1.5 patch

...error "WETriggerScript WARNING: getMyHoldFactionControllerMarker()..."...

I have just purchased Skyrim on steam and on a fresh install I get this error when trying to create a new game. Tried uninstalling, reboot and reinstall, again same error. Installed the CK as some posts suggested, no change.
Any other suggestions?

It has been reported that a http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1360249-script-error-post-15-update-quest-cr04/ from the released version of 1.5 (strangely, this problem didn't exist in the beta despite them being the same build number).

The person who posted http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1358779-wetriggerscript-myholdlocation-error-cant-play-at-all/ claimed to have fixed it simply by installing the Creation Kit, but I suspect additional steps were taken.

This issue has also been reported with a mod called Warzones. It has also been reported under several versions of Skyrim, not just 1.5.24. I have never seen it.

If you have never used any mods other than the two that you have listed, I would look at the discussion threads of those mods to make sure no script changes are made. Mod authors sometimes take liberties in the changes they make, despite their mods being purely aesthetic in nature. Also, this kind of error will occur even if you've used an offending mod and since removed it since a mod's data will modify a savegame file. Removing the mod will not clean up these records from the savegame file, allowing references to absent data to occur. If you've never installed a mod that causes this, and downloading the CK doesn't help, the only other thing I can suggest is verifying local game cache in Steam. Beyond that, I'd find an instance that causes the error and try progressively older saves to see if the error starts with a particular save. This would allow you to progress from an earlier save rather than starting over.
