What is it about being level 20...

Post » Wed Jun 22, 2011 8:43 am

As per Topic Title. As soon as you hit level 20 and there's 'nothing' to play for (besides, you know, actually winning) nobody cares for the game and just mopes around as a Sniper.

That or they just go idle and take up a bot space. Really can't believe there's no idle kick.

That's a somewhat different story, anyway. Tell me someone has had the same experience. As soon as you get in to level 20 lobbies the amount of players actually trying drops from 100% to 50% and it's really frustrating. You end up with people who won't switch class, or, even worse - play the right class for the primary objective but ignore it completely cause they is after killzzzzzz. I saw a bunch of guys today on a LOSING attacking team, trying to spawn camp the defenders. Yeah, go back to call of duty objective games where the idea of domination is to spawn trap people...

Seriously though, all OTT ranting aside, it's a really disturbing fact that when you take away the leveling system players of this game simply dont care. The whole idea of rank limiting is so that as you reach the higher ranks you dont get stuck with players who dont know what they're doing (and the opposite, of course) but it hasn't really worked guys I'm sorry to say. Certainly not everybody is worse than the bots, there's just a noticeable difference in trying numbers once you hit top rank compared to those who are fighting their way up. Maybe an idea would be to do what Rainbow 6 did? Allow top rank players to continue along a 'top rank club' number that is separate from the standard leveling system because it unlock anything, but then people would still have something to fight for.

BC2's top rank 1-50 number system is an equal example.

What do you guys think?

I agree with the numbered max rank... loved the idea on R6 (they need to come out with another one already)... I also brought this up to zombie for blacklight... I personally think an unlimited number would be awesome too... that way you could see the true vets... then again there will always be modders... so who knows

I don't get it. I really don't. Why people want to spend hours a day mindlessly killing people. Isn't it more fun to do the objectives? Isn't the tactical and teamwork aspect of the game that sets it apart for the others in the genre?

I personally feel like leveling systems in FPS don't make much sense it shares none of the qualities of an RPG or even how RPGs level systems typically work. (The point in an leveling system is to make one grow in power, in FPS you typically just are able to use more items or abilities. If it were the same in an FPS as in an RPG your bullets should do more damage, reload faster, run faster, jump higher, take more damage and have more life.) I do agree with separating the people just starting out and the people who have been playing a bit.

My bet is people are just *sigh* bored. They have (or so they think) they have played through all the content of the game so the come to this conclusion:

"I've blown that charge 1890209 times all I wanna do is kill...."

I DON'T GET IT. A few days ago I went and did a private match and planned out some things with a friend. Found places to possibly stop assaults in CCity. Tactics to help get that VIP out of that first room in Aquarium. I probably learned a large amount of things about those maps that will give me an advantage.

I feel like people don't want to play as a team. They really don't. People enjoy looking at what they have done. People like seeing that they have most kills. Hence why CoD is so popular. It's the standard of gaming of our era and also reflects the mindset of everyone else as well. I want a game that makes ME feel awesome, I want to see MY name on the top of the leader board. I want to see the final kill cam to be MINE. And what happens after a game? If you have a mic people just cut each other down and say some of the most pointless things. Then the same person you raged on is on your team the next game. WEIRD.

The R6 Vegas system didn't really encourage anything but going for kills. Which - however - is what would get you through the gamemodes eventually anyway. Like in Call of Duty.

The BC System might work for you, but for others - like me - it's a killer argument. I just don't want to bother playing ~1 hour for each rank while getting steamrolled by players who already maxed R50.

Going for and doing the objective is often combined with a lot of sitting around and doing nothing. Thus, the intersection of Objective and typical Cod Players are basicly the campers.

Moving and hunting for kills (Run & Gun gameplay) is just more appealing to some people. And while BRINK brings all the tools for R&G to the table, it doesn't encourage it whatsoever.

Soo...theoretically, from what i understand...you want another rank attached to our actual level rank? ...wow... So i guess when referring to my player, ill have to start saying, "Yeah man, im a Rank 5, Level 20, Sublevel 42, Sub-Sublevel 18..." ,etc... Thats essentially what it sounds like your asking for. "Give me more levels and then give me more levels to define those levels even further, and then...if you guys really want, you should give me even More levels to further categorize how awesome i am!!!"

...really...?
I would have expected this from a Call of Dooky: Black Cox player, but from someone who supports Brink? ...really?

An extra leveling system will just show what you've done PAST the max level... and btw... leveling in this game mainly happens by doing teamwork and not just killing... so in all actuality he would probably be correct in saying it'll take away the people who don't care about objectives at level 20...

Don't get discouraged matt... its a good idead...

Soo...your pretty much asking for a prestige Rank, because thats all that is. Showing, with a numerical rank, what you have done past the max rank...yeah, that definitely sounds like the definition of a "Black Cox" Prestige.

The fact that it's not skill-based.

I'm almost done with my 3rd 20

press back, scoreboard, go to member you wish to kick, press a, vote to kick

Try competative? Also good kids will play any class.

Brink has one of the biggest skill gap I've ever seen.
