What Are These Called?

What are these called and is there any history behind them?

Also, is there an "official" way to get around them without getting hit? I usually use a shout to activate it but was just wondering.

That's a Rune, summon something on it. Every time I try and jump them I enevitably land on it so, summoning has been my recourse.

Just pick up a piece of equipment and throw it on the Rune. Standing well back.

Either use something lieing about or use something from your inventry and then collect it back up again.

That is a rune, they are usually fire, frost or shock and are quite powerful, the way I get around them is by using the novice level destrucion spell flames, you can stand far enough away to avoid the blast, and not take any damage, from my experience, shooting arrows has no effect on them

It's a rune, looks like a frost ruin to be precise.

There are many traps in those old dungeons, left to catch out dastardly grave robbers. Well, maybe not so much the dastardly ones, but the stupid ones

I use a shout to set them off, frost breath I think it is, took me a very long time to figure that out and not get hit by them.

It's one that is a shock rune, in Saarthal.

Runes.

Thanks.

Disappointing as i refuse to use magic with my warrior, although i never knew you could throw a piece of equipment on the rune. Shall remember that next time.

Noob question- how do you pick up something and throw it, without having telekinesis? Or can you?

Very carefully. You have to kind of spin and release. I just hold it front of me real high and drop it and back up.

Or, just cast any spell at it. It might have to be an elemental damage spell, but this will give you something to do with all those scrolls you have been collecting.

Me, I never notice the rune until it blows up in my face.

Yeh but to my understanding, you can't throw an object without the spell telekenisis. Dropping an object onto a rune from far away, enough to activate it always ends up with me dieing, because I'm well in the radius. Smokeyman and I are wondering if you can throw objects as Karniest suggested we should.

You can you just pick it up by holding the e-key until it picks it up instead of placing it in your inventory then swing it using the mouse and press e again to drop it and the movement will continue just like throwing it.

One can trigger them and not get damaged. Not sure how it works, but I often just run across without noticing them, then they make a lot of noise, but I did not take any damage.

Might want to try to send your follower onto it. The trick with the action key may work on a corpse and by slinging it in an arc over the rune.

If I see them then I just walk over them and heal myself afterwards. It gets my restoration skill up...

I always stand well back and shout at them. Unrelenting Force or Fire or Frost Breath does the trick.

I use flames. But if it's too hard to throw something at it, you might be able to just kick something at it.

I haven't tried this but if you instruct your follower to walk onto the rune, will it kill them permanently? Just curious.

I set off runes with a firebolt or a magelight...those work too. Yes, stand well back. :)
