I am new to RPG's and skyrim is my first rpg. I love the game but really find myself at a disadvantage in battles even though I am pretty high in level (level 52). I am battle-mage and primarily rely on this playstyle. This is how I fight

- Battle/mage : Use spell and then hack away and heal myself then use spell and hack away. (50 percent of the time)
- Two handed weapons : Rely on health potions and hack away at bosses and difficult enemies. Use a shout to gain advantage and then use power attacks. (40 percent of the time)
- Archer : Use it for dragons and sneak attacks on enemies far away. (10 percent of the time)

I also use all-mage but very rarely.

Now I have my smithing high enough and need to get two more perk unlocks to get daedric armor. I was just wondering if I should use heavy or light armor?

It doesn't matter. Light Armor can become almost as strong as Heavy Armor. Heavy Armor can become weightless.

It really doesn't matter.

Armor classes are really a choice in the long run, as each one can provide the max DR. To that end, materials don't matter either as any material can be made to have max or almost max DR with the right Perks/Skills/Enchanting. Even then, you don't need max DR in this game if your tactics are up to snuff.

So, the best answer is until you get to the point where the class and material does not matter, pick the best armor class and material you can get your hands on at whatever point you are in the game.

As far as Daedric, I have never liked it because it is so heavy, but some Perks can negate that in this game.

I agree with Darkside Eric, but if you have already started putting perks in the heavy armor side of the smithing perk tree (and it sounds like you have if you are only two perks away from Daedric) then you should go with heavy armor to get the most benefit of the perks you have already used. Also, if you go light armor and run up the left side of the smithing perk tree, then you cannot maximize smithing of Daedric weapons, which are the best in the game. So there is an advantage to going up the heavy armor side of the perk tree, which tends to give heavy armor a slight advantage over light armor if you are maximizing the benefit of your limited perk points.
