What Bethesda Did Right

I like the fact that they changed the leveling system so that you don't have to worry about "efficient" leveling to get five points in three attributes. All that number crunching in Oblivion and Morrowind distracted from the immersion, and even when I tried to just play and not worry about efficient leveling, I couldn't stop myself from doing the math in my head . . . so kudos to the new leveling system for that.

On the other hand, I wish there were more skills and I wish the perk trees that look like circles worked like circles and I wish they had not done away with the ability to create custom spells. That was one of the coolest things in Oblivion and Morrowind.

The PS3 bug, amongst a few other massive ones, are the only things "wrong" with this game. The rest was give and take; we lost some things people liked and gained some things people liked. The game evolved and the universal acclaim this game received DESPITE it's buggy release is proof enough that Bethesda made good decisions that resonated well with most people.

I like that the game world is big and gorgeous and they fixed oblivion leveling. I'd like to see more random encounters out in the wild. What there is are cool but I always like the feeling of stumbling across a big fight between nasties I have no business tangling with.

Biggest graphic glitch I have are dead dragons falling out of the sky when the world loads.

I never thought Oblivion was broken with leveling, only that legendary artifacts should level with the player, (like ordinary weapons do) instead of staying at the level they were when found. I see Skyrim still doesn't do that- allow uniques and legendaries to level up.

Many of the things people complained about in Oblivion are responsible for some of the dettriments in Skyrim- gone acrobatics.

I didn't mind the 'number crunching' because no matter what you did, you would always end up with more than you needed.

That's how a game should be, unless you want to introduce a duo track system, hardcoe vs lush similar to that of Fallout NV.

A game should be fun. Fun should never be removed. Removing assets people liked, chameleon and super speed, was unneccesary to satisfy those wanting more 'realism'. I hope they do a two track next time.

I really like the smithing in Skyrim. Finally a use for collecting pelts. Just wish the Smithing perk tree was a true circle so you could go from Glass through Dragon to Daedric, without having to waste a bunch of points in Orcish, Dwarven, Ebony, etc. Makes it kind of tough on a light armor player who wants the best (i.e. Daedric) weapons.

Also wish that you could make money smithing, but even at a smithing skill of 72, the components seem to be worth more than a smithed item. That doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

Beth got a lot of things right with Skyrim.

Better Scaling, swords feel like swords, Graphics look gorgeous, Dragons, no horrible Attribute system, a unique perk system that makes our choices matter in level up, Radiant Story that allows me to go to different dungeons instead of the same ones over and over again, Open World game, Better Voice Acting, Wes Johnson, Dwemer Ruins, Etc.
