Why do some people have it and others not?

I have a theroy.
1. that you can enter vault 3 before doing come fly with me.
2. that this is cause because of a bug with the rebreathe stay a quest item instead of being a normal item and that entering the vault for some reason may cause this item to become lost to the memory which prompts the missing content, and since it was in your inventory and no longer there if you hit yes it shows the memory attachment problem.
3. people pls help me to confirm this i cant confirm it becaus i cannot get rid of the rebreather which is one of the main thing that changes in the game but is optional meaning you can complete come fly with me without getting the rebreather. which would explain why some people may experince this glitch and not others.
4. i say this because i have entered vault 3 before doing come fly with me and it didnt corrupt my saves. but after completing come fly with me when i entered the vault i corrupts my saves.

I just got the DLC bug myself. I have not been to vault 3 yet. I have only been to Goodsprings, Primm, Ranger station south of Primm, Novac, and Old Ladys garage place. Went to Repconn after talking with Manny in Novac and sided with the ghouls. After extensive testing I have found that the bug happens between getting the modulators and the fuel. I did loot the space suit which has been mention on the FNV wiki pages as a possible cause. I have tried literally 15 different combos including the 2 different fuel options, raising other factions, convincing the human to go to Novac, etc. I still get the DLC error when I hand in the fuel, which is a step before the quest is done. I have even tried wearing a cowboy hat which was a fix for getting into the strip for some people.... no luck.

Oddly enough this is my 2nd playthrough and I had no issues doing the exact same things in Repconn my first time. It must be something so small, such as looting a wrench or taking a slight conversation change, that I didnt notice.

I just read on the Wiki page that you can simply read Manny's terminal in Novac and avoid this bugged quest and proceed with the main quest.

My issue is specifically with Vault 3. I can load any of my saved games before, and inside, of Vault 3. The immediate saves that I have once I exit it, causes this DLC Bug. I have tried to reload the DLC, but no joy on "fixing" it. It seems as if Vault 3 itself might be the cause. I do have the Space Suit, but I have had it and have been long gone on completing this quest. So far, the only variable that I have is Going into this Vault or not. What is odd, is my other major bug is due to me completing the Vault 11 quest. **spoiler?** This causes Victor to automatically be "dead" in front of the Casino 38 and the inability to meet Mr. House. At the present time, this game is considered "unplayable" by my standards for these 2 major bugs. BOTH of which are caused by the Vaults.... hmmmm, coincidence?

I have NOT done the Come Fly With Me quest.....or even initiated it. I still get the DLC error message from Vault 3. Its when I go into the second section of the Vault that its starts to corrupt saves from that point onwards. It does not happen if I enter Vault 3 and stay in the first section....but as soon as I go through the next door (that brings up the load screen and creates an autosave) then it happens.

Are you talking about the Maintenance Area? I can reload personally in that area... hmmm.... I haven't tried to save immediately after I leave the Maintenance area, so it might be something to do with any actions that I take inside. I wonder if I go in, leave, then save if it'll still be corrupted. Have you tried this at all?

It might have been, this was a few weeks ago and I have steered well clear of going into Vault 3 since. So there may be more than one door to go through after entering the initial entrance area (Recreation Area). According to the official guide there are the Living Quaters and Maintenance Wing. I assume this totals up to 3 areas of the vault. I dont know if the Maintenance Wing can be accessed directly from the Recreation Area or whether you have go through the Living Quaters first in order to get there.....if this is the case then it was entering the Living Quaters that corrupted my save points from that moment onwards.

The only reason I ever wanted to go to Vault 3 in the first place is because there is a skill book in there for the Sneak skill.

Yeah... The Recreation area has both a "Living Quarters" door on one end and the "Maintenance Room" on the other. So you have this issue going only to the Living Quarters area huh? So, is there something in there that is causing this issue? I have been in both the Living Quarters (to rescue the Ranger) and then to the Maintenance to deal with the head Fiend. So if you didn't deal with the main guy, and have this issue, then it might just be that part. Or, it could just be going INTO the vault will cause this issue.

I just gave it a re-test and here is whats been happening.
I enter Vault 3 into the Recreation Area and then immediately load up the autosave that it creates without any problem. However if I make a manual save in that area the manual save will become corrupt when I try to load it. So making manual saves in the Recreation Area is a no-no.

I can exit back out the vault from here without any propblem. I have already cleared the Recreation Area of Fiends some weeks back.

Now I go from the Recreation Area to the Living Quaters....as soon as the load screen ends and the autosave is created, I appear opposite a door with a medium locked door and a medium locked terminal next to it, the door leads to a room with a Sneak skill book inside. The autosave thats created from entering these Living Quaters is fine and loads perfecty when I try to reload.

But as soon as I turn around and go back through the door to go back to the Recreation Area......the autosave becomes corrupt.

So its both creating manual saves in the vault and leaving the Living Quaters back into the Recreation Area that is creating corrupted saves for me.

There are more hostile Fiends in the Living Quaters I have not yet dealt with. And I am sure there is quest related stuff in this area.

I tried to just enter the Sleeping Quaters, sneak to that locked door and open it and grab the skill book without being spotted and exit back to the Recreation area as fast as possible. But the autosave becomes corrupt every time along with any manual saves I try to make past that point. So there is no way I can get that book.

The DLC bug is caused by bodies falling through the game world (I'm sure you've seen objects sinking into the ground). When you save the game and then try to load it the engine can't handle those locations for the bodies. I guess it assumes that because there's an object where it shouldn't be able to be there must be a missing DLC.

A lot of people get this for the first time visiting the REPCONN test site because of all those pre-placed ghoul bodies that are lying around. I guess Vault 3 might do the same with the dead Fiends that are down in there.

The worst part of this is that it really is just luck of the draw. If you don't get anything fall through the geometry of the game you'll be fine. I did both Come Fly With Me and Vault 3 with no problems.

I still have this quest highlighted in my quests page on my pip boy. I have yet to complete it through fear of getting that DLC bug. However i have done about 90% of the quest ' come fly with me ' and im up to the point of handing in the required equipment to the scientist. After reading the problems with this quest i decided it might be best to leave this quest alone until the patch and off i went and continued the rest of the game. I am at hour 70 in my game with no game ending problems or any real annoying bugs that make me log into this site to complain.

Oh i also looted the space suit, but once i spoke with ' Chris ' about finding what he needed i just didn't hand them in and left the area, so make of that what you will.

I haven't been to Vault 3.

The bug happened after completing 'Come Fly With Me'. After that I went back to that villege where Boone and the dinosaur gift shop is and completed his quest.

I saved after that and the next day I wanted to continue and couldn't. Reloading worked fine until I switched off my game (although I'm not 100% if I reloaded before of after completing 'Come Fly With Me' because I did die once between 'Come Fly With Me' and 'Boone's Quest'. )

The last save that still works is right before I enter the chamber where you can push the button to launch the ghouls into space(?)

I reloaded that save and didn't launch them. Instead just ook off. Saved again. Rebooted and that save does reload. 'Come Fly With Me' is unfinished.

From what I can tell from these post, the DLC bug has something to do with Quest-Items? Since both Vault 3 and Come Fly With Me have these. (Correct me If I'm wrong. Haven't done Vault 3)

Come Fly With Me has the radioactive toys
Vault 3 has 'Space Suit'?

Other things I did was took the lot of toys in the storage room in the dinosaur shop. I think I also stole the one on the counter

In your corrupted save, one of the ghoul bodies at the REPCONN site had sunk into the floor and the game engine couldn't handle it when you tried to reload. On your other saves that worked ok, you were fortunate and that didn't happen.

That's all.

What proof do you have that the DLC bug is caused by bodies sinking into the floor? Is this just your assumption, or do you have solid evidence? Were you told this by Bethesda/Obsidian?

It's an interesting idea, but I'd like to know if it's something more than just your own personal theory.

I got this explanation from someone who is certainly in a position to know, so I'm quite confident this is the explanation. I don't think I should say more than that.

The only reason I mention it at all is that there's no point tying ourselves in knots trying different stuff to figure out what is causing the problem at this stage - we just have to wait for the patch.

It's an assumption, because in the vault 3 maintenance wing there was only a couple of fiends that I killed and i looted every body. I think it has something to do with either motor runner, his helmet, the chainsaw or the quest item in his locker.

The first time I encountered motor runner he was friendly even though I killed all his guards, then, after I found the save corrupted I reloaded right outside the maintenance wing, re entered, started killing again, but this time he attacked on sight.

It may have something to do with a faction error? I gave up after i saw it corrupted another save and avoided going back into the maintenance wing, and am avoiding the ghoul tower for come fly with me entirely until a patch is working. Also avoiding all quests on the strip now I see people are having problems with that area.

It's sad we have to avoid whole areas of a game that many quests send you to to complete objectives, to try and prevent your saves from corrupting in a game that can take some of us upwards of two hundred hours to get the full experience.

DLC bug might as well have two causes.

Since it seems to appear with two quests. Vault 3 and Fly With Me

Seems plausible enough. The game expects something to be there while it isn't (because it sunk into floor.)

i'd believe it. last night i got the DLC save error, and i had a gecko nightstalker in the Sulfur Caves in Vault 19 fall through the ground. didn't think that would be a cause, and i saved over my slot (still have my save from before the final battle, which i am presuming is OK, was too peeved to check).

What on earth makes you think it would be unsafe to tell us how you got this info? Your statement just sounds silly.

Oh no, maybe you've said too much already!!!11

It would make no difference if you were told this info by customer service representative or the President of Obsidian. There is nothing to hide! Nobody's going to take you seriously unless you're straightforward and not acting like we're dealing with secret international intrigue.

One more thing. If the DLC bug is caused by bodies falling through the floor, why doesn't it happen on PS3? Bodies fall through the floor on the PS3 version as well, yet PS3 has no DLC glitch.

No offense, but everyone on this thread is over anolyzing these issues. I have played this game four times completely through and I have yet to have had the DLC corruption...and I wouldn't be surprised if I got it during my 5th playthrough. Not to sound mystical, but I honestly believe there is a greater general fatal error in the coding of this game that is causing the WIDESPREAD AND INNUMERABLE variety of bugs, glitches, errors, and corrupted saves. I have had many of the issues discussed in previous threads as well as many that others haven't mentioned. That said, I have also not had the same significant issue re-occur during any subsequent playthrough, regardless of playthrough continuity.
So, I know this sounds counter productive, but I think if everyone thoroughly read through the forum you'd see there is a wide diaspora of issues that are not triggered by any one event and in doing so you'd be saving everyone from re-reading of random speculative hypothesis.

I have no idea. This isn't my theory, it's just what I have been told.

It's fine if you don't want to take it seriously, I honestly do not care. In reading about people on here spending loads of time doing elaborate tests and coming up with torturous 'solutions' I just thought I would share what I have and save people some time.
