What Exactly are the "Elder Scrolls"? : V

After getting angry at Diplomatic Immunity on Skyrim, I decided to ask what the Elder Scrolls were.

Are they actually physical scrolls, or is it just a title? What are they, and what do they do? Do they have a meaning in the games or what?

In short; They foretell the events of the MQ's in TES before they happen.

The 'Elder Scrolls' are all the coding that makes the game. They determine what will happen in the game.
